It's the comic pretty much verbatim, with some more stuff thrown in to add more time. A lot of the scenes in the movie are scenes exactly from the book.

Just back from seeing 300 at the cinema!

297 Spartans
Achilles best mate
Faramir
and a very pissed off Scotsman!

Whats not to love? A great movie. Good action and more one liners than your average Arnie movie!

Yeah fighting in the shade etc, but what about the " they only outnumber us 3 to 1 now" line by Faramir? Or the comment thats Persian scouts make good mortar?

Good movie, best laugh i've had in a while!

While I'm not sure if they actually said the exact thing with the scouts, they certainly did use them as mortar.

Also, there's archaeological evidence proving the hail of arrows. Multiple times.

best movie ive ever seen.

id give it a 9/10 only because they went heaps far with the effects but didnt finish them. the blood never touches the ground.

and i see a fault with the name.

leonardis asked the general: 'Is the the 300 of you best men?" meaning there were 300 spartans, leonardis and the general.

the movie should be called 302

and also during the movie, when the one eyed guy is telling the story he says "the brave leonardis and the three hundred" so theres only 301 now?

i can't wait for the dvd extras on this one... it'll be rather interesting to hear just how many of his co-stars gerard butler maimed/injured/otherwise beat the tar out of as he has a bad habbit of doing that...

actually what i loved most about the movie was how it was filmed with the monochrome vs. red between the persians & spartans. the final scene after leonidas and his men have were shot down was just beautiful - almost still life...

hopefully we'll have the dvd by the end of july/sometime august as ghostrider is due out soon and it was only a few weeks before this!

cheers!

Yeah I am looking forward to it as well. I have a screener of it already that is full quality but I want the directors edition with the extra dvd of stuff to watch about the making of it (if there will be one anyway). I got the extended LotR movies and I have watched the making of those several times over, I just love that stuff.

I was lucky enough to see a live taping of That 70's Show a couple years ago and that was an incredible experience in its own right. But when a disc lets you go even further into production than that... well it's golden.

i caught a little bit of a behind-the-scenes bit on hypaspace. apparently they broke alot of weapons and had to make daily repairs to most of the shields and other things...
the funny thing is of corse they did that much damage to the stuff and they obviously weren't even fighting in proper greek/spartan style! (which would have been far too dangerous!)

also, being a smallish production in montreal, all the stunt guys/extras got to 'die' many times over!

cheers!

Against the flow somewhat but I thought the film was very average.

Could have been done so much better. As for the battle scenes being realistic, I think not. The picture of a spartan holding a spear in one hand and knocking a charging cavalryman backwards of his horse was shown more than once and was clearly ludicrous. That said the battle scenes were very entertaining just not realistic.

I also thought the scenes shot in sparta with the queen etcetera were pointless adding nothing to the movie. They could also have put the movie more into it's historical setting. A short explanation of what went before and how inspirational the battle was would have been good.

The main downfall of the movie was that it didn't get you involved with the charachters. If you compare it to other last stand movies like Zulu or The Alamo it just doesn't stand up. Essentially at the end I hadn't engaged with any of the charachters and therefore didn't care that they were dead.

All my opinion of course sorry , not impressed.

i do like 30 i rate it as a good film and agree with alot thats been said, as for historicly accurate or realistic i agree with cabbage, but on the otherhand this is hollywood you shouldnt expect anything else.

And as for comparing it to Zulu i think you should be ashamed cabbage!!

300 is a two bit b movie that should be avoided at all costs compared to Zulu :D
