Hey everyone.

I'm new on these forums, but so far I've found a lot of great posts, and it has really helped me get into the game again.

So, a couple of hours ago, I played my first battle in over 6 years.
Back then I played Space Marines, as I could borrow some models and stuff from my older brother, and it was recommended as a good starter army. But I didn't really get properly introduced to the game, and Space Marines never really caught my attention enough.
So now I'm back, but this time I'm bringing Tau onto the battlefield. I researched all the armies, and found Tau to compel me the most.

I must admit, it was a bit overwhelming to step into the game again, but luckily I had some mates, who helped me out, and I got to play against one of them.
Now the plan, originally, was that I should have played against Tyranids, but due to the guy getting sick, I ended up facing Chaos Demons. It went great though, except for the fact that a Night Fight scenario was chosen, and I was really unlucky with those rolls (two missed Hammerhead shots, three with my Fire Warriors and two with my Broadsides).
In retrospect, we regretted that we had chosen to stick with the Night Fight, since it really kept me from reaching my armies full potential, and basically made my Hammerhead wasted points.

All in all, it went good though. We had to stop with a draw, since it was getting too late, but if we had finished, I'm pretty sure I would have lost. He still had a Greater Demon waiting to deploy, along with some Demonettes, and I was getting pretty cornered with my remaining troops.

The hardest part for me, was getting an overview of what to do next, since I spent my opponents turns, paying attention to his moves and rules etc, instead of planning out my own tactics. But I guess everything comes with practice.

A few questions though: How did you keep track of everything in the beginning. Should I make some sheets with general tactics, weapons and such, since I also found myself flipping through my Codex, every 2 minutes.

And, if there are any Tau players out there, what is a good force to start with, if I'm planning to play around 1000-1300 points?

Either way, sorry for the wall of text (late night rambling) and it was great fun to play again, and I'm glad to once more be a part of the Warhammer community.

Peace out and all that

About night fight: Tau have blacksun filters for a reason. They're cheap, too and advisable to take just in case you get this mission. Especially on units you need to have hitting their targets.

Problem was, I was told I was gonna be playing a normal scenario, with nothing fancy, against another new player. But since my opponent decided we should have some 'fun', I was in a jam.

But yeah, I know, normal routine, I would bring Blacksun Filters.
