Hello gents,
Ive been working on a 3d model of remus ventanus, and have been going off of the cover of Mark of Calth.
Heres what i have so far:

My problem is i have no idea what kind of helm to give him. His power armor seems to be modified mk 2 from the cover, So should i give him the mk 2 helm, the ultramarines praetor helm? Any ideas?

Judging by the armor in the picture, I'd say you're probably right, Mark II.

I don't know enough about the 30k setting to know which is more appropriate.

What program are you working on? I actually studied 3D modeling and animation in university. . . a while ago.

Uh..that picture depicts Ventanus in Mk 5 armour, its the chest-plate that gives it away:

After reviewing the legion models I'm amending my assessment. I now believe he is in Mk IV armor with a studded pauldron and sabaton. The vent at his throat and the chest power cables suggest Mark IV to me now.

Since you are an experienced modeller, what tips could you give me to make my model look better?

My suggestions are more about detail than 3D specifically.

It's also hard to render solid criticism with only a single perspective view.

But. . . here goes:
The shoulder trim isn't quite right. The chest straps/cables look like they should sit further out from the armor. The thigh attire loss too wide compared to the knee pads, and might be coming in slightly off angle.

Ya this is just a base mesh, I am going to send it to Mudbox soon. I agree about the shoulder pads but the chest straps are suppose to be relitivley right to the chest peice.
