Found this quite interesting found this online, its a very similar to the boltgun in the 40k universe. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyrojet gyrojets appear to be very similar to the rockit propelled bullets in 40k.

In basic terms yeah, just z very crap version of it, the AA12 shot gun is the closest real world version at the moment firing exploding rounds but traditionally propelled, hopefully if some heretic wins the euro millions lotto jackpot they might throw a few million into research for a real one!

Yeah your certainly right they are a crapper version of the bolt guns, where the bullet has quite a slow muzzle velocity which increases over distance with the missile propelling the projectile forward. Funny thing is what i read of then most of the gyro-jet weapons were made mainly in 1960 as an armor piercing weapon. The uses for such weapons are limited in comparison to many other modern weapons but options for weapons in limited oxygen environment where the propellent and oxidizing agent could still be used in space.
