Ok, as the title suggests, I'm not that experienced in the wonderful game of Warhammer 40k. So, I have a few questions about the rules that would help my gaming.

1. Do you take invulnerable saves as well as regular saves?

2. Can you through frag grenades at troops even if you aren't going to assault them?

No and No. If you read the rules for frags, you'll find that they don't actually do any physical damage, meaning throwing them if you're not going to charge is a very pointless exercise.

Suggestion, make sure you always read, reread, read and reread that rulebook again and again. THEN go to a forum and post if you can't find what you're looking for. You'll gain a lot more out of doing it that way.

You CAN, however, throw grenades at vehicles.

You have to be in base contact (so it's not really throwing so much as strapping, but it could also be tossing it underneath the vehicle or something) to use a grenade against a vehicle. If it has a weapon skill, you only hit it on 6's unless it's immobilized. There's a table in the rulebook that has the strength value to use against vehicles. Frags are... not ideal, but in the case of guardsmen, it gives them a chance to glance rear armour. You'll never use the rule, but the point is, it's there.
