I always use Guitar wire/strings, ( Dont ask which,i dont play i just scrounge the broken ones.)
It tends to stay in the shape you want better than other wire and makes a nice whippy effect.
Just remember to dip the end into a bit of super glue to get a little ball on the top so its not as sharp.
