Hey,
i did try searching on this and just couldn't find exactly what i was after so sorry if this question has been answered before!
I'm pretty new to Gameing 40K (been modelling it for a while tho!) and myquestion is this, what are the practical differances between the Cyclic Ion Blaster, Airburst Fragmentation Projector, and the Plasma Rifle? I mean i know the Plasma has good range and the Airburst ignors cover saves, but whats the Cyclic good for, and what type of units are each weapon designed to kill (tank, light infantry, hoard, etc)?
Thanks :D

Airburst = Large template bolter with a guess range of 18" that ignores cover. Mainly for taking out weaker armoured things such as Gaurd, Orks, Nids etc and nullifies the cover saves they will inevitably go for. Range for the gun is problemmatic however, especially against Nids, as it forces you to get closer to the enemy than you really want to be with a Tau battlesuit.

Cyclic = This is really a pointless gun. The lower strength means less wounds for the most part and while it ignores marine saves on a wounding roll of 6 it isn't worth it. Also has the same range problem as the Airburst.

Plasmarifle = THE best gun you can buy for a battlesuit. Long range that allows you to remain father away from the enemy, high strength that wounds most things on 2's and even higher strength monstrous creatures will take damage from it. Top it off with the ability to rapid fire when the enemy does eventually get close enough and you have a winner.

I play Tau quite heavily and use a list with 8 Crisis suits in it. Each one is armed with a Plasmarifle, a Misslepod, and a Multitracker. Hands down the best config for a battlesuit.

Awesome!
Thanks heaps mate thats exactly the kind of info i was after!
After reading about the CIB i had the impression it was pretty useless so i'm glad i was reading it right!
So far most of my nine Crisis suits have the same config as you (one swapping the Plasma+Missile combo for twin linked Burst Cannon and another swapping it for twin linked Fusion Blasters and both swapping Multitracker for TargetLock) but i thought i'd give my Shas'O something differant given he's allowed special issue weapons and all. I was leaning toward Airburst and a Poistion Relay with his multitracker hardwired. :)

Actually, i think the CIB is a great weapon. Stick it on a Shas'El and up his BS to 5 then Combine it with a plasma rifle you're looking at one bad ass suit. 5 shots at BS5 will give you at least 4 hits. You're then rolling an assault cannon.

This guy's also good at mowing down medium infantry - Eldar aspect warriors, storm troopers, fire warriors etc with 7 shots at 12", 6 at 18" all hitting on 2s = nasty.

This guy can kill anything, from the heaviest armoured troops to the lightest successfully (Fireknives can kill anything too but they don't kill termys or swarms half as good) and he does it with style, as the CIB looks super cool.

Really? You don't find that it is a tad weak at Str3?

It is a must in my army. I play against a lot of IG so it comes in real handy if the want to try and assault my pulse carbine team.
