Well, it seems over the past couple of months I've caught the 40K bug in a big way.

In the past I've made an effort to steer clear of collecting more than one army at a time, but I've recently begun playing with Tau and now I'm considering a 3rd army, my original force being Dark Angels.

I guess the loyalist in me has drawn me towards Witch Hunters, and I have a few questions regarding this army.

From what I understand Witch Hunters and Sisters Of Battle share the same codex. How does this work? Can your army be made up of both or should it be one or the other? How current is this book and is it likely to be revised in the near future?

It makes sense to me, at least in regards to fluff, that Witch Hunters could ally with an Imperial Guard Armoured Company. I already own a few Leman Russ tanks and I'd like to be able to put them to use. Is this supported by the allies matrix thing in the Apoc book?

I am not sure how current the WH codex is, but as for your other questions, yes you can use the sisters and WHs in the same army, I believe that if you do this you cannot ally with SM in non-apoc games, but you can still ally with IG. As for which group you should use you will need to look in the codex and see what restrictions there are (as far as I know there aren't that many).

And yes you can use at least 1 IG leman russ in the forces, but I think that you need at least 2 IG troop choices.

This is all that I think I know based off of my quick skim over of the WH codex and the fact that they are very similar to my DH

They are part of the same force basically. Witch Hunters of the Inquisition and Sisters of Battle that they can call upon. Each has enough units that you can make a pure list one way or the other.

You can go either way. Personally, I think that the Sisters are the way to go as otherwise you are basically just fielding Guard but that is a personal preference.

How current is this book and is it likely to be revised in the near future?

I would say...3 years old. And it shan't be revised any time soon so you should get at least a couple of year use out of it.

Sisters Of Battle are the troop choices for Witch Hunters.

it's a good codex and you can allie with IG or Spacemarines.

For Apoc yes you can take essentially everything you have.

In order to use your lemans in a non apoc game though you also need some troops from the ig codex allied with the witch hunters.

I think the inquisition books were around 2003 but won't be updated soon, well I hope not as I just brought the Daemon hunters book...

Its the most expensive army to collect and almost all metal. Otherwise there not updated rules make them nasty shooters and very good in cc as well. And e-bay wont save you much money alot of pieces go top dollar even out of the box.

I really expect updates for them and GK to be in the same form as the Blood angels. Hope soon there worthless at the moment unless used as a single unit in an army (Gk i mean).

Yeah I noticed the lack of boxed sets available but since I plan to build this army slowly, unit by unit, I'm not too worried about the costs. I still have my Dark Angels and Tau for gaming, so I can really spend some time modeling and painting the Witch Hunters.

I really chose this army with Apocalypse in mind, it gives me plenty of variety in regards to troops while staying in line with the fluff (since WH, IG and SM are all Imperium forces, I imagine this alliance is supported).

Actually the costs aren't as bad depending on your army composition. In Canada the difference between a 10 man squad of SOB and a 10 man squad of tactical marines is $5. Assault squads are $10. Tanks and independent characters are roughly the same cost as their SM equivalent. Only thing that might cost you more are the heavy weapons which you have to buy as blisters, special weapons can be easily converted from the sisters that come in the box sets.

However, if you can afford the costs you get an army that have some of the nicest models, some pretty cool special rules and a chance to do some pretty cool conversion. projects.

For Apoc you can pretty much ally any two armies but WH and IG do provide some good combinations and are pretty fluffy together.
