I recently ran out of Matte Varnish to finish my models. After buying a new can of the spray I noticed that, after doing a squad of marines with it, the models has a gloss finish now instead of a flat image. I only use the Citadel spray matte varnish and was wondering why one can gave me a flat look and the new one gives me a gloss finish. Anyone have any suggestions on that?

I can confirm that. I was screaming and shouting for weeks because it did that to one of my minis.

The GW matte varnish was crap anyway, imho. Go to a modelling store and buy Testors Dullcote. 100x better and much cheaper as well. Unless you put it on super thick, it won't leave a shiny spot anywhere.

Funny how GW makes (generally) high quality minis, but they can't seem to get the simple stuff like, oh, I don't know... hobby tools and paint down. Foundation Paints are really their only success in that area that I can think of, and even then, the color range is so small that they're only useful to a point.

wow, I personally feel the the GW paint is pretty good quality, some are lacking in pigments, but I've worked with all sorts of paint on both canvas and miniatures, and I feel that the GW paint is pretty good, yeah there might be better paints, but just because one thing is better, doesn't make the other bad.

Yo Stella Cadente.. That's the exact same paints I use too! £1 a pot, bloody good! lol More runnier than the GW paints, found they're no so good for undercoat colours. I use the GW for that..

And MarshallReinhart, just shake the can for AGES. I got that glossy thing too, but I just shook the tin for like 10 mins or more lol Just to make sure..
