I'm putting together a gunline list for my space wolves and at higher point games where I can fit more in I'd like to have some kind of melee buffer. I was thinking a unit of 14 blood claws (flamerx2 or flamer/melta, power weapon) and lukas, or some lone wolves with maybe storm shield and MotW.

I know people dis lukas a lot because they argue you can just avoid him the entire game. By having him as my melee buffer however I ensure they have to go through him if they want to reach all my ranged units.

I've also heard lone wolves used as buffers too and I thought, if equipped well, they would also be viable tarpits. If I go down this path then what should I equip them with?

A lone wolf in TDA with SS/Chainfist will take ridiculous amounts of firepower and still come out on top, while lone TWC with SS/PF will make a mess of your opponents' vehicles.

Wolf Lords on Thunderwolf mounts will also wreak havoc, but they require a bit more investment.
