I would like to know what would be the best codex/index to use for preheresy death guard as I may have my first game of 8th coming up soon.

I would imagine just using the forgeworld books with some slight variation would honestly be the best. That or the Space Marine codex and use the Iron Hands rules to represent them shrugging off damage.
