Hey,

This is an ok list for Codex Marines. So this is how I would change things:

1st Captain Ingo Pech (counts as Chapter master) 178
Relic blade and storm bolter
artificer armor
Hellfire Rounds
Here I would drop the Hellfire rounds(you can't use both only a BOLTGUN) and storm bolter for a Storm Shield.
With that your chapter master will be 185 pts.

Troops:
10 tac's 240pts
plasma gun
pwrfist
rhino
IMO I don't like plasma guns that much because of the 'Gets Hot' rule. With that you could lose one marine and its over. Take a Meltagun w/ Powerfist in this squad. That would be 235 pts. Also don't forget that ML.

10 tac's 240pts
plasma gun
pwrfist
rhino
Here I would also drop the Plasma gun in place for a flamer and a power weapon and of course don't forget that heavy weapon. Maybe another ML.
This comes out to 220 pts.

Elites:
Sternguard 195
Plasma gun
Razorback
Here I don't know what your putting in here, "Is it 5 man or 10 man?" or "Is the razorback Heavy Bolter or TL Lascannon?" But IMO I would do a 6 man team (if you still want that razorback and chapter master with them then go 5man) with Three combi-meltas and then the RazorBack would have TL Assualt Cannons. This comes out to 240 pts.

Venerable Dread 185
heavy flamer
Assault Cannon
I don't like Venerables very much because in my experience they haven't been as effective as I wish. So I would drop the Dread and get Two predators
First: Autocannon and Heavy Bolter spons - 85 pts
Second: Autocannon and Lascannon spons - 120 pts
That totals to 205 pts.

Now that comes out to a grand total of 1085 pts with 15pts to play with so you can put extra armor on either Rhino or the Razorback and that would finish it up.

Note: the Chapter Master might not have anyone to run with but you can use the Bombardment to go effect and you could run him behind the razorback then when the Sternguard get out they have a cc person with them.

Good Luck and Happy hunting!!

im trying to keep it fluffy, and I dont really like launchers, just one less boltgun...i play CSM alot so thats probably why. I use plasma's because they can rapid fire as well...

I like the dread because of its higher BS skill, ill be getting an Ironclad soon too...probbaly.

The Sternguard are a 5man, with TL Lascannon razor. plus, I really dont wanna proxy stuff, so I really wanna plan this out as a 1500-1850 pt army well.but the preds sound nice.

Thanks!

I think the advice given by Betawing is pretty sound. Now if your going for a fluffy list, Alpha Legion was still a very tactical hit and run force. Using lots of assault troops and jump packs. The dread seems kind of out of place a bit

For game effectiveness i would say the biggest problems i see is that your using a chapter master and stern guard. While a nice units for an army, they are very expensive at this point level. You MIGHT be able to get away with it with the right strat. Heres something along the lines of what i would use:

HQ:
Captain w/ JP, DW, PW - 155pts
This guy is a solid vanilla hq choice. cheaper then the chapter master and just as about as effective. Stick him with the assualt troops

Troops:
10 Tac Marines w/ PF, PG, ML, Rhino - 240ots
10 Tac Marines w/ PF, PG, ML, Rhino - 240ots
Betawing is right, plasma just isnt worth the risk, plus you wont be able to charge if close enough and want to fire it, but you seem stuck on them so i used them. The points could be better spent to give the speeders back their HBs or getting extra armour on the rhinos which i would also recommend, i just couldnt find the points for it. Lastly, you not liking MLs? thats just SMs man, i mean come on, you can't pass up that upgrade for that price. Even if you dont use it, you still getting the same amount of attacks as a normal marine since we apparently aren't cool enough to get a BP, Bolter and a dang CS like the CSMs.

Fast Attack:
7 Assault Marines w/ PF, Flamer - 171pts
Coupled with the Captain these guys should fare well if you just do a tank shuffle to shield them up to the line to charge. I just couldnt validate such an expensive unit as vanguards or sternguards at this point cost. for the same points you can get more assault marines. I don't usually run these guys short of 10 men, but at this point cost, shielding them correctly and the captain, they shouldnt do too bad. plus this just helps your fluff effect.

Landspeeder w/ MM - 60pts
Landspeeder w/ MM - 60pts
I always run these guys in pair or better, or else they just become rubble on the ground. Keeps in the "hit and run fluff" of the Alpha Legion and can provide some much needed anti-tank support.

Heavies:
Predator w/ Autocannon, TL-HBs sponsons - 85pts
Predator w/ Autocannon, TL-HBs sponsons - 85pts
Perfect for softening the lines before you guys get there and cheap for what they can do. Just all around good heavy support for effectiveness.

1096pts

There, with that list your list has some more meat, much needed support, a good dash of the fluff and a solid foundation to expand later on. Hope that helps somehow. Good luck and happy hunting!
