Do you guys have any pregame habits?

I try to psyche my opponent out by commenting on the recent exploits of models as I place them in the style of the national lottery.

"Next out the Callidus, last seen 2 weeks ago. Killed a tactical marine squad before dying valiantly"

Same here. I have seen people set out models that aren't in their army sometimes. Makes their opponent think they're using them and totally makes them mis-judge the battle conditions.

Yep, I buy my opponent a soda, I figure it's the least I can do considering the beating I'm about to give them........

Other than that, just go over terrain, explain any questions regarding my army. I use an all-RT IG army so many players aren't familiar with what's what. In tourneys I also give my opponent a copy of my army list and expect them to reciprocate.

I tend to make sure I have everything painted and wysiwyg. Lay everything out and hand over my army list so it can be seen. I explain if I have infiltrators and deep strikers.

I tend to avoid the psyche-out. I also tend to be pretty gratuitous when it comes to measuring, counting partial hits and the like. If a guy should get a save and he's not going to take it, I make sure he knows he should get a save. I "Say Yes" a lot.

If i'm going off to buy a soda, I offer to buy as well for my opponant. No need to hold up the game while I'm gone, just go ahead and move.

I sort out all my dice and decide which colour I'm going to use.

Sounds easy but involves trying to remember which ones are lucky against which enemy.

My pregame habits usually consist of deciding which of my armies to use. I usually ask my opponent which army they would prefer to face and usually end up playing orks. I imagine this has to do with the rarity of orks and the perception of their weakness. I don't care to see my opponent's army list and don't particularly care if they cheat. I will furnish one of my own if asked. I also end up having to beg to borrow a store copy of my codex since I have a terribly bad habit of leaving them at home.

I like to place out my whole Armored Company even when I'm not using it all. Its vastly intimidating to see. When I use my Eldar, I always put 6 wraithlords on the table with my army even though I rarely use more than 1. They always shit and exclaim "How can you use 6 wraithlords?!". I of course tell them I'm not, but it shakes them up all game.

I owned 2 wraithlords, got a 3rd in a trade, got 2 more for free from a friend exiting the hobby, and got another in a walk-in raffle. All pewter and heavy.

Just thought I would move this topic up to get some readership and hopefully some response to it all. Should be interesting to see what newer members have to say.

Thats actually a really good idea. I'm going to try that at the finals.
Keep the spares on the sideboard, so he never knows if you're going to call in reserves or not ;-)

I like to rank my guys up neatly, make a joke about putting my baals on the table, and point out anything that might be questionable as far as my coinversions and whatnot go. "That powermace with all the cabling coming off it is a thunder hammer, in case you were wondering. All BAs come with bolt pistols, frag and krak...I just don't have the bits or desire to represent them all. In case you;re wondering, this dread is venerable and death company" etc.

If I'm using a counts-as list I go threough and explain what everythign is in more detail List available upon request, though if you want to see mine I want to see yours.

At the moment my pre-game habits mostly consist of making sure my youngest has a drink somewhere and that he's not wandering off with bits of terrain, while simultaneously saying to my eldest, "you said you wanted to play, I've set up the table, now turn Sonic off and get in here before your brother eats all your tyranids".

Then staring at all the marines and wondering when I'll get to use them all (well, after I get Apocalypse, obviously...)

lol, that's great. the only foe more dangerous than the hivemind is...a toddler!

As my entire army can infiltrate (well, the infantry can anyway), I like to watch as my friends set up their armies and will occasionally throw in a comment like,

"Oooo, are you sure you want to put that guardian squad there?" or

"that wraithlord is pretty exposed, maybe he'd be better over here."

and then I just jump about four feet across the table and totally screw with his plans. The best is when I managed to infiltrate a vet squad in his deployment zone because he hadn't occupied the terrain there. :D

I generally get out all my models, go over my list with my opponent and then immediately start counting my dice. I ordered a set off the net ages back and lost one, leaving me with 35. Ever since then I have been paranoid about losing more (no idea why as they are just dice after all) and I have to count them before a game or I become convinced I am going to lose.

Heh, deliberately chose to NOT count them twice. Once was a total slaughter on my part by turn 2, the second time I did the same thing to my opponent. So I count them to be sure the luck is even :drunk:

First, Jeff (El) puts together my army list. I don't think I've ever played the same army twice. (Thus the reason for me getting Necrons - my OWN army so I can learn all the ins-and-outs.)

Then I get a drink and a snack and prepare for the ass whuppin' I'm about to get.

(just kidding, El)
