Hey guys so I'm thinking about fielding a Typhus-led Plague marine army so I put together a 2,000 point list below. Considering I haven't played since 4th ed I'd love to get feedback on the list and see if it can be improved at all to be competitive in 6th ed.

HQ
Typhus - 230

Troops
30 x Plague Zombies - 130

7 x Plague Marines - 198
- x2 Plasma guns

7 x Plague Marines - 198
- x2 Plasma guns

7 x Plague Marines - 188
- x2 Melta guns

10 x Chaos Space Marines - 170
- 1x Heavy Bolter
- 10 x VOTLW

3 x Rhinos -141
- 3 x Havoc Launchers

Fast Attack
2 x Heldrakes - 340

Heavy Support
1 x Vindicator - 120

1 x Predator - 115
- Lascannon side sponsons.

1 x Obliterator - 70

Fortifications
1 x Aegis Defense line -100
- 1 x Quad-gun

TOTAL POINTS - 2,000

Any guidance you can give me to help modify this list into a competitive army would be most appreciated!

HQ
Typhus - 230

Strong HQ, especially in a squad of 30 zombies. He's a tough nut to crack, I'd put in another Lord though and make him the warlord so you have a chance at getting a trait that doesn't suck balls

Troops
30 x Plague Zombies - 130

Good.

7 x Plague Marines - 198
- x2 Plasma guns

7 x Plague Marines - 198
- x2 Plasma guns

7 x Plague Marines - 188
- x2 Melta guns

These guys are also very good. Give them Rhinos!

10 x Chaos Space Marines - 170
- 1x Heavy Bolter
- 10 x VOTLW

Tbh, I'd scrap these guys, you already have 4 scoring guys, And these are just a very expensive way to squeeze in a Heavy Bolter...

3 x Rhinos -141
- 3 x Havoc Launchers

Give them dirge casters and use them to scrap your enemies ability to overwatch

Fast Attack
2 x Heldrakes - 340

Flamers or Autocannons?

Heavy Support
1 x Vindicator - 120

Needs a combi-bolter to stop that "weapon destroyed" being your only cannons 100% of the time

1 x Predator - 115
- Lascannon side sponsons.

Wouldn't take this, with an Autocannons and 2 Lascannons, its fitted out for doing half a job.

1 x Obliterator - 70

You need more than 1. I run 2 squads of 2 with MoN to stop them Insta Dying from S8 fire

Fortifications
1 x Aegis Defense line -100
- 1 x Quad-gun

Good.

TOTAL POINTS - 2,000
I'd replace your Predator with a squad of 5 Havocs with either Autocannons or Lascannons, I'd go Autocannons and put them behind the Quadgun, 12 str7 AP4 shots in a squad! Use the points for this squad from your CSM squad and predator you scrap, use the remaining points on a plain lord and put him on the quad gun and dirge casters for your rhinos! Thats my 2 cents

Reviewed list

I can't disagree with anything you've said there.

In regards to the Heldrakes I would take x 2 baleflamers. How do you rate the Hades autocannon in comparison with the baleflamer?

Also what are your thoughts on using a dreadclaw drop pod (65 points) with plague marines + Pgs/Mgs in order to place them next to a soft target (Termies/heavy armour)?

In addition what tactics would you employ to utilise the plague zombies most effectively? I was considering that as they still have a BS skill they could operate a quad-gun OR at least go to ground behind the Aegis defence line and get 2+ cover saves with FNP.

Okay so my revised list looks like so:

HQ
Typhus - 230

Sorcerer - 70
-1 x Gift of mutation

Troops
30 x Plague Zombies - 130

7 x Plague Marines - 198
- x2 Plasma guns

7 x Plague Marines - 198
- x2 Plasma guns

7 x Plague Marines - 188
- x2 Melta guns

3 x Rhinos -156
- 3 x Havoc Launchers
- 3 x Dirge casters

Fast Attack
2 x Heldrakes - 340
-2 x Baleflamers

Heavy Support
1 x Demolisher -125
- 1 x Combi-bolter

1 x Predator -140
- 1 x TL Lascannon
- 1 x Lascannon side sponsons

5 x Havocs -125
- 5 x Autocannons

Fortifications
1 x Aegis Defense line -100
- 1 x Quad-gun

TOTAL POINTS - 2,000

How does this look? Although I'm sure the 70 points spent on the Sorcerer could have been better spent elsewhere...

It depends on what rules set you are using! If you have the dogfighting rules and you see alot of flyers in your games then the Autocannon Heldrake is a powerfull air-to-air tool, but you may as well use a hellblade as its cheeper! (pts wise)

Also what are your thoughts on using a dreadclaw drop pod (65 points) with plague marines + Pgs/Mgs in order to place them next to a soft target (Termies/heavy armour)?
I think your pt cost may be wrong? I thought they cost 85. But I dont like them, as they dont get the SM droppod 1st turn arrival rules, you end up playing with only part of your army (But that's my feeling on any troops in reserve)

HQ
Typhus - 230

Sorcerer - 70
-1 x Gift of mutation
What powers are you takeing on the Sorcerer? I would add another level myself. But I could be worth removing him and adding a few extras to the Plague Marine squads.

Troops
30 x Plague Zombies - 130

7 x Plague Marines - 198
- x2 Plasma guns

7 x Plague Marines - 198
- x2 Plasma guns

7 x Plague Marines - 188
- x2 Melta guns

3 x Rhinos -156
- 3 x Havoc Launchers
- 3 x Dirge casters
Nice, I would add a combi-flamer to the PM's helps with overwatching from the Rhinos (I play Necrons alot and its a great way to clear scarabs from the Rhinos before they get into CC and rip the Armour to peaces.

Fast Attack
2 x Heldrakes - 340
-2 x Baleflamers

Heavy Support
1 x Demolisher -125
- 1 x Combi-bolter

1 x Predator -140
- 1 x TL Lascannon
- 1 x Lascannon side sponsons

5 x Havocs -125
- 5 x Autocannons

Fortifications
1 x Aegis Defense line -100
- 1 x Quad-gun
This all looks mostly good. I expect you said 4 Autocannons on the Havocs? but other than that it looks good! (though I would add a sige-shied to the Demolisher. Thus you can hide it out of LOS and smash though the terrain to get into range as soon as possible

the sorc is not so bad. he can buff a plague marines squad or buff even more the typhus zombie horde. telepathy could come in handy or maybe you want to risk with biomancy...

Awesome thanks.

So how do plague bearers compare with plague zombies? and how does typhus compare with a daemon prince?? because the other option is to run a list like this:

HQ
Chaos Lord - 152
- MoN, Bike, BM, combi-plasma.

Daemon Prince (ally) - 245
- Wings, DF armour, Exalted gift, DoS.
----------------------------------------------------
Troops
10x Plague bearers -90

7 x Plague Marines - 198
- x2 Plasma guns

7 x Plague Marines - 198
- x2 Plasma guns

7 x Plague Marines - 188
- x2 Melta guns

3 x Rhinos -156
- 3 x Havoc Launchers
- 3 x Dirge casters
----------------------------------------------------
Fast
2 x Heldrake - 340
- 1x Baleflamer, 1x Hades Autocannon

6 x Chaos Bikers - 176
- MoN, x2 Flamers.
----------------------------------------------------
Heavy
Vindicator - 135
- combi-bolter, siege-shield.

Predator - 140
- Lascannon side sponsons, TL Lascannon.

----------------------------------------------------
Fortification
1 x Aegis Defence Line -100
- Quad gun

TOTAL - 2,118 points

Although a slightly larger army (mainly because of the ADL) it is more of a flexible build.
How would you compare this build to the previous one?

Never used plague bearers so I cant comment. What I do know is though, if you use Typhus, run him up the field with your 30 zombies around him. Keep Typhus at the back of the squad. Its pretty much giving Typhus 30+ wounds. Everyone is going to shoot that squad thus letting your other squads lay waste to your enemy, or your enemy is going to shoot all the threats close by while Typhus waltzes up the field. Either way, your opponent is going to get trashed. Typhus is a BEAST in CC. Hit a strong squad with the destroyer hive and say goodbye to the majority of that squad, kill some zombies with it, who cares? They did their job by escorting him to the fight. I'd take Typhus over a DP any day of the week.

Baleflamers are great at killing anything with an armour save of 3+ or worse. The Hades A/C is good for hitting vehicles with armour of 12 or less (although you can hi 13 and 14 with 5+, 6+ respectively.)
