I use mostly Reaper paints... although the reds are no different than anyone elses'. I do, however, like Mechrite Red from the foundation range. It cuts two layers of conventional paint out, and it's a nice mid-tone so you can shade it or highlight it quite easily. And it goes over black in two thin coats or one sort of semi-thick one if it's a flat surface devoid of a lot of detail (such as, idk... a Rhino door.)
I Strongly recommend the new Foundation paint Malachite Red as a base coat for reds. I have been using it on my epic Evil Sunz and Goff bits and then highlighting it up to blood red, its saving me a lot of time.
The turrets on these are just one good coat of Malachite Red over black spray with a fairly heavy Blood Red drybrush.
chaos black base
blood red (first highlight)
blazing orange (extreme highlight)
fiery orange (really tiny extreme highlight)
i tried to put a picture of one of my red templars painted this way to show you of the effect but the best pic was blurry and it wouldn't let it on anyway (image file size too big apparently and i don't know how to reduce it)
