Looks pretty strong to me. I would consider seeing if points can be found for a couple of bolt throwers though as it'll give your heavily armoured opponent something to think about.

Even if they don't hit with their average BS then your opponent must play around the fact that they might.

Basic boys are better now because once per game you can declare a Waagh which means all your units add their rank bonus to their animosity roll and in the new rules a roll of 6 on animosity makes you move d6" towards the enemy. If you contact an enemy unit you count as charging. This makes the basic units far better as you are more than likely charging a turn earlier with half your units.

Some more experienced orc players may correct me on the finer details though.

Lose the black orc boss its just too expensive in 1000pts just use a normal orc.

other than that the list is fine. For 1500pts get another unit of normal orc boys and some dispel scrolls for the shaman there'y useful. and a smallish unit of black orcs.

2000pts have a orc warboss as the lord some more heroes and more units of orcs or goblins who I have a hole new respect for seeing they held up a unit of empire knights for 3 turns.

Looks like a good list, let us know how it gets on.

You want your boss to be using a great weapon to be honest, seeing as how his initiative is so low he'll be striking last anyway. In which case you dont really need to bother with the enchanted shield, just more boyz.

Also, I've always found Arrer Boyz to be a bit poor, maybe drop them and the enchanted shield for 2 spear chukkas?

I tend to play for the fun of it, and competitiveness...well...I'm not very. Not with Orcs really at all.

I tend to run a goblin heavy force (specifically night goblins) and love the fanatics. They are devastating (be careful they don't came back at you).

I'm also a huge fan (no pun intended) of the Giant. They can do some pretty cool stuff. Read through the new army book and read all the nifty things they do. Hillarious.

For me, half of the fun is the animosity and things going wrong...stuff being wildly out of control! They look cool, have a massive army and are fun to spin up and let go.

I haven't played WFB since the High Elf/Night Goblin boxed edition (was that 2nd?), but I played Orcs and Goblins back then. I don't know what the current stats are like, but I'd agree with the others that the Arrer Boyz are a waste of points. If you're going to take Orc/Goblin archers, you need more than ten to be effective, and so you're more often than not better off buying twenty-odd Goblin archers for the same price. Orcs and Goblins used to have the same BS, so there's no reason not to get double the shots for the same price.

Of course, I have no idea what they're like in the current rules, so I could be wrong.

I'd also second the swapping of bolt throwers for the boar chariots.

Thats one reason i love Nightgoblins. You can take a small unit for very few points and your opp never knows if they have fanatics in or not, until its too late. Gotta love fanatics. Orc Arrer boyz are actually seriously cheap nowadays, plus they come with choppa's, have T4 and come with proper bows rather than short bows.
still I never find the points for arrer boyz, there just not high up on my useful list

I rarely field Arrer Boyz, but they do have a purpose.

Orcs tend not to be agile. Having some shooting helps protect you from rampaging Fanatics, lone Mages on foot casting spells at your flanks, most fast cavalry units, etc.

They're not a great use of points, but I can see them being handy for adding flexibility to the list.

...maybe not so useful for a 1000pt game though? After all, the table is gonna be pretty small (or, 'is going to have been pretty small', as this thread seems quite old now!) and so is the opposition - which means there won't be so much opportunity for the kind of tactics that would require being countered with arrer boyz I would guess...

I'd take them in bigger games, but not this size, is what I'm basically saying.

Also whats a good size unit of orcs for 2000 points?

I basicly have no idea what to equip my orcs with, do i do spears and shields or two choppas

As I mentioned in the other thread, 25-30 Orcs works well. 30-40 for Night Goblins. You avoid panic and get the +1 CR for outnumbering.

Spears used to be good on Orcs, but with 7th ed. Choppas have gotten considerably better. I'd do either Choppas and Shields or Two Choppas.

The BSB is a tougher call. I traditionally didn't field one because Black Orc Warbosses took up two slots. Now that they don't, the BSB is a more viable option and it greatly benefits horde armies like Orcs.

If I were to take a BSB, I'd put it on a boar. He's too vulnerable with a 5+ or 6+ save. The boar will let you keep him around a bit better (and thanks to 7th ed. you can still hide him in a unit of infantry!).
