I've been testing a Plasma Spam list for a couple weeks now with some good success.

Daemon Prince w/ Wings, MoN, Warptime

Its a very simple list with some very serious short range fire-power. Does well against MC heavy lists but not quite as well vs Mech and Horde. The Chosen I tend to infiltrate as close to my enemy as possible. I prefer 12" if I can walk into LOS turn one for some rapid fire plasma goodness. Otherwise I try to find cover 18" away so I can shoot my plasma with the benefit of a 4+ cover save.

I have been trying my DP with a Mark of Nurgle and Warptime instead of a Lash simply because I don't actually like frustrating my opponent, though I'm sure it would help this list a bunch as well as save me some points for Icons on various things.

So, what do you think? How can I make this a solid all comers list?

For a solid all comers list I would make the plague marine squads bigger for survivability. About the one thing this codex does right is get the Chaos gods favoured numbers correct.. Seven is a magic number for plague marines. Take 3 units of 7 with Rhinos instead and try to give them power fists.. Always good since PMs tend to strike last anyways.. And swap one of the chosen units plasma guns for 4 meltas instead of plasma.. This wont make much difference as you said you intend to infiltrate 12" away.. (the range of a melta)

This leaves you with 62 points left over from your changes if my quick calculations are correct.. Take off the 5 points that you went over 1500...

That gives you 57 points..

Get yourself a rhino with a combi-melta and a dozer blade for the Meltagun chosen and then at the beginning of the battle you can choose to either infiltrate them seperately or outflank the unit in the rhino to deal with any heavy armour your opponent has. As Chosen have a great advantage of being able to get into a good position you should have the same luck you have with the plasma.. Only if you roll a 1 its just a miss and you cant melt your own face off...

(Personally I would do this with both Chosen squads but you seem to enjoy your plasma very much. Remember that unlike your plague marines your chosen cannot use feel no pain to account for rolling an overheat on a plasma gun.)

EDIT:

Ignore what i said about combi melta and dozer blade for the outflanking Rhino if you like and give the unit an Icon of Chaos Glory... This will be good for pinpoint deepstriking your obliterators in...

damn, that is a lot of plasma.

you mentioned hordes/tanks were your problem, so i'd switch the Chose to my favored 3 melta/2 flamer set up for all comers.

or you could do 3 plasma/melta on one squad and 3 plasma/2 flamer on the other squad.

that could leave you enough points to increase PM squad sizes.

if the lone DP has been working for you keep it, but i'd imagine it's a bullet magnet.

TBH i would either give your Chosen Icon of Nurgle or just dop them completly for your first list and put them back into beefing your plague marines

Some good suggestions so far. I'd like to keep the Chosen as they're often the only reason my PMs get in range. However, I'm open to maybe switching out their weapons. Only problem I've faced with Meltas is that I get too close and get myself charged, taking them out of play, whereas with the Plasma I have the option of letting them hang back a bit.

One of my concerns with upping the squad size is that it often means my PMs don't die in two combats, which is ideal for me as it opens my opponent up to being plasma'd. Do you think its worth me tying up enemies longer then two turns?

potentially, but then again, i do see the value of opening up gun line after your opponent wipes out a unit of your PM's.

that's a very iffy thing you ask, and hard to answer. i would almost say no, however. i think with this list if you get charged and a unit is wiped out, the return fire you could put out is more effective.

another option for your Chosen: infiltrate in with two LC's maybe, adds anti tank besides the Oblits, and makes the Chosen seem more of a threat. yeah, they'll die, but psychologically speaking players focus on an infiltrated las cannon quite a bit, which means added surviveability to the Plague Marines.

look, we get you like Lash. if someone wants to use Lash, they will; by now this tactic is very common. parroting the same advise for every list without regard to what the poster mentions is not helpful. so i'm asking nicely: please cool it with the Lash.

you're friendly and seem to know what you're about when it comes to CSM, and seem capable of giving outstanding feedback if you got away from your current line of reasoning.

so I have faulty reasoning, and I have been attempting to not recomend lash to everyone. If you ever see why people recomend lash, it's so then the plasma cannons can spam them to pieces, which is the reason I recomend it. If you see, I havn't recomended lash other than here for like a week!:laugh:
