So i thought that while im rebulding my SM i might as well start a tryanids army since i have wanted to do so for awhile. So whats good for nids? i was thinking of running a guant and warrior heavy list with some genesteales. I have heard mixed things on warriors and on homoguants, and that they nerfed regular carnifexes in 5th. Aslo what bio morphs are good for hive tyrants and warriors? And how are warriors and homoguants in 5th.

Thank you

Hive guard, trygons, tervigons + termagants are some of the best choices in the book and will always serve you well. If you are looking for the most effective choices for a balanced list I would use these. Plenty of T6 and a lot of scary MC / support options here.

Warriors are ok objective holders but I wouldn't use them any other way since they will be ID'd by anything str 8 and above. The prime however is an awesome and cheap HQ that can really rip stuff apart. Attach him to other units for some cheap synapse.

Large groups of hgaunts with toxin sacs can also be a rather scary unit. Use them to screen your larger creatures.

I like running Tyrants with duel scything talons, armored shell and a couple tyrant guard with lashwhips. I don't much care for the bonesword/ lashwhip because the Tyrant will already be ignoring armor and the small chance for ID isn't greater than rerolling all hits imo. The lashwhip is also unnecessary on him because of the guard. If you attach a tyranid prime with duel boneswords they will tackle pretty much any other unit in the game since everything else will strike at Initiative 1 and the "deathstar" can play some sweet wound allocation tricks.

get the battleforce and 1 box of Warriors. There you have a 500pts army all ready. Use all the modals you have from the battle force(except Rippers), give 1 warrior a Barbed Strngeler and the Hormagaunts Toxin sacs. Also take 1 Warriro form the extra box and turn him into a Tyranid Prime with nothing extra. 500pts exatcly

All I can say is it depends on how you prefer to play. If I knew your playing style, I could steer you towards more suitable units.

That said, the tyrant, warriors and prime can fit into any list. Shooty, fighty or horde.
