Hey guys, my friends and I just started playing about a year ago, but i am moving a couple states away so I won't be able to play with them. I'm thinking about starting to go to some gaming clubs and was wondering if i should tweak my army to have a better shot playing with people more experianced then I.

so here is my army:

keep in note that i have not decided what to put into my falcon and waveserpent, so feedback on that would be great, and sorry for abusing the upgrades on the prism and falcon haha

Personally I would take a Farseer and an Autarch, but that's my opinion. Depending on opponents the Avatar will endure a helluva lot of firepower. But maybe you have plans for the two.

I don't take Striking Scorpions eventhough they have a S4, you're probably going to face a lot of 3+ armour save opponents who will get that save everytime

There's no need for an Exarch. Take ten of these guys for 24 points more and put them in a Wave Serpent. Hell for your opponent on wheels (or anti-grav platforms anyway)

For all three of these get rid of the power weapon, shimmershield and Defend, you do not want them in CC. Maybe take two units in a Wave Serpent each and have them support units like your Fire Dragons. Also never in units of five, go for the gusto and get ten.

You don't need Star Engines, nor Vectored Engines on a Fire Prism. Why would you want it to move anyway, it can reach any point on the board?

Drop the Falcon for more Wave Serpents. You need your guys to be mobile.

Wave Serpent: 160 points
-TL Bright Lances, Star Engines, Shurikan Cannons

Wave Serpents are fast enough without Star Engines.

I was also thinking of switching out the striking scorpians for howling banshees. I figure the would do better in cc with 3+ armor save opponents.

I also have eldrad, a squad of harlequins (that i have no clue how to upgrade) and just one walker that I could also use. If those units would be better than something I am already fielding then I would gladly switch them out

I like the Avatar but hate trying to get him into battle. Running him with the guardians is a good idea. I would go with a scatter laser or EML instead of the Star cannon. I love them but the poor bs is a waste at those points. Look at adding a warlock to add punch to the squad and maybe conceal.

Maugan Ra rocks. He works well as a support gunner or in assault. If you switch to banshees I would go with Jain Zar. She rocks in cc.


I would max out your scorpions. You will need them for staying power.

Fire Dragons- drop the exarch and add another dragon
Falcon w/ EML so it can move and still fire the EML as a str 4 DEF weapon

DA's x2 drop the pw, shield, and defend and add dual cats
wave serpent w/SS, and one should have a BL

Dark Reapers are fine (never used the Tempest Launcher)

Falcon Holo, SS

So you dropped a DA squad, star engines, VE, should give you enough to get the last WS for your other DA's.

Harlequins are awesome-do not underestimate them!

To best upgrade them it would be a wise idea to give kisses to every member. This makes them rending (combine with furious charge for extra fun!). secondly give none of them fusion pistols since they are quite expensive and add nothing to their combat prowess. A troupe master can be a good investment and I normally choose the power weapon. Finally here is the greatest secret-get a shadowseer. Sure he sets you back 52 points but he makes them very hard to shoot to death. The assault grenades are just icing on the cake, especially when combined with their ability to move through any terrain normally. One major complaint about harlies is their lack of punch on lots of hard enemies such as plaque marines so I normally pair them with a phoenix lord (karandras and fuegan being my preferred choices) and they normally reave through enemies.

would dropping the scorpians and putting in harlequins, then dropping avatar and maugan ra and putting in a farseer with a squad of wraithguard be better?

The best way I have seen Wraithguard work is in a squad of 5 with a warlock and Yreil in a wave serpent. It works well
