Hey people. :) I have been playing 40k for about a year and a half, and to toot my own horn a bit, have been doing pretty darn good with my local gaming group with a Seer Council, banshee, mech heavy eldar lists. But It has come time for a change of pace. I have no intention of giving up eldar, but I want to collect another army as well. Something a little less glass cannony.

Enter space wolves. I have and have read the codex, but to be honest am not sure where to start as I've not messed with marines since my first 40k attempt when I was 15 (about 15 years ago). So friends I guess my question is, where should I start? I've got a box of gray hunters. What should I do for my second troop choice and what vehicles should I invest in? Rhinos seem obvious maybe a land raider or drop pods.

As my funds are not limitless I think I'll shoot for 1000 pts then expand from there. Thanks for any advice.

In addition to the grey hunter boxes I would go for regular tactical marine boxes for the extra bits like missile launchers and then mix and match when building them. Grey hunters are one of the best troop choices in 40k and I would rank long fangs up there amongst the best HS options too. Razorback kits are also awesome especially for space wolves, just remember to not glue down the hatch and gun so you can change between rhinos and razorbacks with ease.

So if you have one grey hunter box this is the order I would next get kits.

1. Tactical Marines / More Grey Hunters
2. Razorbacks
3. Whatever you want!

If you are just looking for a large number of troops I would go with the battleforce as everything is useful in it. Our scouts are the best on the block.

It would probably be more cost effective to buy heavy weapons from bitz stores and ebay. I would always but the razorback over the rhino and just leave the turrets and doors un glued so that you can switch between Rhino and razorback. A landraider is always a good transport for them and long fangs bring a mass of cheap heavy weapons to the table.

Wolves is the one marine army where the predator is not a good way to bring some cheap las cannons to the table. Even the vindicator is a bit suspect due to the amount of guns you can get from a long fang pack for the same points cost.
