Well as it says in the title, I'm very new to warhammer but not to modeling and painting (WW2 models) and I'm thinking about doing a Steel Legion army, but I'm lost when it comes to setting up since Warhammer has this large rule base.
Also, I'm thinking about making plastic replicas by casting the model pieces and maybe making my own little modifications.
Also any suggestions on paint schemes? I'm thinking about doing an assortment of browns and light desert browns and maybe some worn in greens for the coats, while the helmets will be a steel color.

Thanks in advance, Liam.

hey mate,
Not to sound mean but l would ask this in the 40k area not the warhammer fantasy battle area as these are 2 very diffent games,

and just so you know Steel Legion is diffent from the normal IG (they have gas musk and so on) and are hard to come by now a days

Moved to General 40k.

Steel Legion can be quite hard to gather up due to the fact they are no longer produced, also being the old metal minis the amount of poses is finite.

Forgeworld have the Death Corps of Kreig IG range which is very nice and similar in style.
(The a tutorial here where Imm0rtal Reaper separates the 50 DCoK Gorgon Transport passengers, which makes things cheaper.)

Forge World stuff is a bit pricey but the price the older metal minis command on Ebay etc makes FW DCoK a viable option.

When you talk of casting, I presume you mean make your own parts and then cast off them as Casting from GW parts is a bit of a grey area when it comes to legalities.

Hi,

a good alternative to Forge World models (sadly DKOK are resin and SL are metal) would be Shock Troops from Wargames factory:

Shock Troops

And the sprues pics

I thinks these guys will only need some GW lasguns and they can do the job :), its just putting the GW arm, you dont even have to cut it; that's what I have planned to do someday, I love DKoK, but getting troops is pricey...

Alright, yeah I'll post pictures when I start casting the models if you guys need tutorials on how to cast anything I have some good videos also my friend told me I should make my Soldiers look like WW2 Paratroopers with the Steel Legion Gasmask, boots and lascarbine.

So I'll do Troopers with Denison Smocks and some brown and green trench coats here and there: for the basing its going to be a late fall so some bases will have a little touch of snow. grass and soil/rubble.
Also I'm planning on making the Storm Troopers look like Pioneers/commandos by adding a Backpack with Melta Bombs, some missile rounds and ect.

And I'll play around with things when it comes to vehicles. (Any suggestions on a vehicle paint scheme?)
