I need some help making a chaos sm list 500, 1000 and a 1500
my friends are very casual and dont care about specifics on the characters if you say it has something(like a sm with a bolter can have a plama gun if you want)

here's what i got:

4 hqs arhiman, abbadon, company master(i think) and Kranon the Relentless

first off, company master, drop pods and ball preds are not CSM units :biggrin: but you can use them to proxy lots of stuff!

thanks so much im really eager to get back into 40k but i havent played sense 4th edition and have 6 armies just laying around XD do you know how to base chaos armies around abbadon or ahriman?

lots of stuff has changed ( i suggest you keep rolling 4th ed with some friends :biggrin: )
At 1500 pts or lower is basically a waste of points to get arhiman or abby...
About abaddon, however i suggest you get the black legion manual: not a really competitive list, but fluffy as hell.
About hariman...welll... i dunno. he's just too many points for what he is.

we all have the new 7th ed codexs and want to play it but how much would you go up to for arhi (he was kinda my fav ) my blood angels has a big list to play against it.

It depends how you run them to be honest - People will tell you that it's a low-tier army (Bottom 3 most likely in terms of the codex) but honestly, I don't find it that bad. It is severely outdated though, but with some creative thinking you can get some pretty fun lists.

Be advised though, that many of the tougher lists you can pull off is without any model with a powerarmor pretty much - So if you want to field Chaos Space Marines, then you are going to have a tough time if your opponent use formations and the like.

I regularly win with Chaos Marines over other players and we have Tau, Eldar, SM, Orks and Astra Militarum in my gaming group, so it's not all bad.

TL;DR version
Not good, but it can still win over any army with skill.

Same here: unless faced by the extra cheesy eldar - tau - necron lists, CSm can and will spak asses, but need skills and must rely on a couple of power builds, hampering flexibility, and variety.
Against Astra Militarum, Orks, Space Marines and others Chaos Marines, i seldom lose these days.
