So I had 10 warriors killed by 13 orks in assault meaning there was none left in the squad as such the orks consolidated. Now I had a tomb spidey within range to give them their WBB which 7 made. The orks had not completely moved on as such some were in base with the orks. Are these necrons still locked in assault or are they free to shoot that turn?

If the whole unit dies then they phase to the nearest similar unit, they don't get back up as their own unit again and count as a kill point for the enemy. In that case they do not get locked in combat with the Orks, but if they unit they phased to are in combat then they will join that combat.

Ok perhaps I should have put that clearer sorry. The orks were still surrounding the squad. Does that mean they stand up next to the spider or where they were.

If it is where they were do they just move the minimum distance to not be in assualt?

Did all the Necrons die?

Yes = they are no longer locked in combat with the orks because they join the nearest other unit of their type in play.

No = the unit remains locked and combat continues.

'Dead' Necrons do not exist in game terms, models that have been put on their side are purely representative of the number of WBB rolls that need to be rolled and nothing else. They can not, therefore, be surrounded or assaulted or locked, or anything else for that matter.

For the Warriors in this scenario to get a WBB roll, there needs to be a Tomb Spyder within 12" and an alive unit of Warriors somewhere on the table. Wherever that unit is, that's where the models will come back.

If there aren't any other living units of Warriors for the WBB Warriors to join, they don't get a WBB roll.
