I thank you for your time in advance. After all the veterans on the form have surly had to wade through at least a bucket load of homemade IC's in their time.

So I while back, something like 1 year ago I set out to make a character that I could get approved in my local gaming center for general use. The reason being that the current CSM characters did not fit my play style, and felt really out of place with the composition of my lists (Think CSM renegades with next to no daemonic units or psychic crap). Hell even my tanks have no CSM specif upgrades. So seeing my unique army composition I long ago set out to design my CSM as renegade merc that have carzed out a small empire far and away operating on the galactic rim offering military assistance to human colonies outside the protection of the emperor in exchange for slaves, technology....ect. Blah blah blah here is the only HQ model I have got approval for by the majority of gamers in my area. So what do you think.

Field Marshal, Marbazz (Army configuration is odd)

WS5 BS5 S5 T4 W2 I5 A3 Ld10 Sv3/4+ Pt=160pts

Unit type: IC

Special rules: Infiltrate, Stealth, Strike from the shadows.

Wargear: Power Armor, Bolt Pistol, Personal Force Shield (Mark of Tzeentch equivalent for my army), Master crafted melta gun, Frags & Krak grenades, Roar of Dragons.

Roar of Dragons: Counts as a power weapon that grants the rending special rule. Any rends also cause 2 wounds on multi-wound models.

Strike From the shadows: Marbazz has served with the chapters specialist units (Chosen) for longer then most marines have lived. As such his ability to sneak up on the enemy is nothing short of amazing. As such he insists any and all who go to the field of battle with him are just as skilled at sneaking past the enemy as he is, else their idiocy end his illustrious carrier. !Any unit Marbazz joins gains the Stealth universal rule!.

Feedback I have got so far: Seems a bit odd, since not many other marine character's actually have useful assault weapons. Also one individual thought the rending causing two wounds was over powered/weird, but oddly enough suggested giving him force weapon equivalent, or always cause instant death?

Generally, inventing a 'major' new rule is considered to be bad juju when making characters. I don't think its overpowering, but I tend to let Games Workshop come up with the rules, and then I modify them on a one for one basis.

For example, my own SC for my none-bike SM's take He'Stan as the base rule set up - changing the Relic Blade for striking like a MC in CC, and Eternal Warrior for FNP for squads he joins. Also, he swaps the 3++ for a Jump Pack. Lastly, swap the Chapter Tactics for taking Vanguard as Scoring Troops, taking a leaf out of Pedo.

Personally, though, your characters fine. The rules are perfect, not OP'd at all, and a Stealthed Infiltrating Chosen squad seems like a really nice idea. Bit unsure on 2+/4++/3+ Cover Save Terminators though, but it's not as bad as it could be - my TAGK's for the Ordo Malleus update could have a potentinal 2+/4++/FNP.

Only for vanilla marines. Chaos Marines usually have pretty decent ones, or at least something involving close combat unless it's Arhiman, and even he has a force weapon and Warptime.

Also one individual thought the rending causing two wounds was over powered/weird, but oddly enough suggested giving him force weapon equivalent, or always cause instant death?

The reason that would be less powerful is because there are certain things--really powerful Independent Characters, all Daemons, etc--that are immune to Instant Death. That way he would be really good at killing, say, a unit of Tyranid Warriors or Carnifexes, but not ridiculously good at owning Abbadon the Despoiler or a Bloodthirster.
The only thing I would change is that I would specify that he gives Chosen Stealth, or at least non-Terminators. Having him sitting in back with some Havocs or Obliterators might be pretty nasty too, so just something to think about.

Also, can I get blueberries in my pancakes? Or little chunks of Ultramarine.

That is a good suggestion to make the strike from the shadows rule only affect units that already come with infiltrate. Or at least to make it only applicable to none terminator armored models.
