So this is my first list. Me and my friends decided to keep it simple and do 500pt lists with no fliers or vehicles (Bikes and jetbikes are allowed. Tanks and transports are not allowed ). The armies I'll be facing are chaos daemons and dark angels. The dark angels player has lots of terminators to work with. The list I made is:

Edit: I forgot to mention we are playing in 6th edition seeing as thst the books we have.

Chaos Lord: lightning claw; lightning claw; sigil of corruption; Mark of Nurgle; Chaos bike; melta bombs 160
He can go hunt monstrous creatures or other special targets.

10 Chaos Cultists: flamer 55
10 Chaos Cultists: flamer 55
Hold objectives/ sand bag enemy's if needed

3 Obliterators: Mark of Nurgle 228
Unleash hell

498 points

Any and all advice/help is appreciated. Also if possible with any suggestions made could you explain why seeing as I'm still learning the game. Thank you all

My sense is that even at 500 points the Lord on the bike all alone might be a little exposed, but I doubt you can be much better at 500 points.

If you were playing at 750 points, or something, I think the first order of business would be getting some bikes or spawn to act as a retinue around that Lord, but as it stands, it might well work.

Just one thing: since I imagine the cultists will be hanging back, you might as well drop the flamers from them in order to upgrade your Lord's second Lightning Claw into a Power Fist. Both a claw and a fist are Specialist Weapons, so you get the bonus attack for having 2, but it lets you mix and match attacks as you need based on your enemy. Also lets you drop the meltabombs, having a power fist--maybe buy back one of those cultist flamers, I suppose.

If you have a lightning claw and power fist you can choose which you want to strike with. With the fist, yeah you'll be going at initiative step 1.

Against armor or targets whose attacks at a higher initiative step you're likely to survive, that can be just fine.
