Ok I got a lot of stick for shadowsun's lousy face from across the boards, this remark particularly struck a cord.

Work on your face sculpting. Lots. Seriously. It lets the whole model down.

OK So I tried a human face sculpt to practice. This is my first human face sculpt. Its to scale with 40k size heads.

OK onto my first attempt... yes its not so good, it looks like slooth out of the goonies, HEY YOU GUYS!

After seeing the extreme close up I had to go back and poke it a bit more with a sharp tool to tidy it up. Also added a cool scar, purely because it was easy to do lol.

Still needs a bit of work in places (nose and eyes) but I'm getting into this sculpting lark.

OK further refinement after analysis. Stage III tweak

Big thanks to Simon Proctor of Ramshackle games. I bought the procreate putty from him on ebay and its freaking amazing. It doesn't stick to the tools, and looks way cool in grey.

Ebay link - go buy some now!

Hmm... Looks pretty good, but you could still need to work on it. However, I can't really see why you won't use the original head. Anywyas, keep it up, I'm sure you'll get there soon!

Shit mate I'm really impressed, the eyes could use a lit bit of work but then again all eyes do, even when they are done proffesionally (Empire Spearmen and Handgunners anybody?). The mouth and nose look great. I say that that was good enough personally but keep at it anyway, you could probably cast and sell them in a couple of trys.

Top notch Gareth, damn! I am still leery of sculpting gs for some reason so I gotta hand the kudos to you there on that face.

Cheers guys, I got some cool advice from Macewind over on TPD to fix the eyes. He says make indentations then push tiny g/s balls in, then ppull the face in over them to make eyelids. This seems like common sense. I'll give it a go.

Also people ave raised concerns about the proportions. So i'll look into that a little more too.
