I am still working on my first Chaos army, I am still a noob at modelling medal figures.

I got the metal Oblits, and the foot of the Oblit has this massive cylinder shaped piece of metal sticking out of the bottom.

All I have as far as tools go, is a hobby knife.

Do I need to get a something to cut the piece off? How do I get it off without damaging the model?

No no leave it. Figure out where on the base you want he Oblit to stand and use your knife or a small drill to start a hole in the base itself. Then add glue and stick the metal post through that. Helps make your Oblit a lot more stable on the base.

as wraith said leave this piece on and look on the underside of the oblits base you should see a load of slots where the cyliner will fit when you pierce a hole through the base it baisically helps keep the model on the base since other wise super glue wont hold it on its own
