Creating units and characters from scratch that are balanced and make sense can be quite a pain. Which must be why every now and then, you see a model with an ability or equipment that is redundant or weird.

Examples:

-Abaddon the Despoiler: Yes, the Talon of Horus looks nifty. However, someone who strikes at S8 thanks to his other bit of wargear doesn't really need to re-roll wounds that desperately unless you have been cursed by gypsies to roll 1's serially.

-Darnath Lysander: A bit schizo, as most people have attested. The statline says 'Bitchin' HQ to lead SS/TH termi units. His special rule says to put him in a bolter dakka unit. He doesn't even carry one for the sake of appearances!

- Guardian Heavy Weapon platforms: Not so much wrong as they just fail to fit. A goodly bit of the Eldar units are fleet, including the cheap and plentiful guardians. Add one of these babies, however, and there goes your edge in foot-slogging movement. Few units in general can survive being out in the open in the current game, but eldar guardians in particular get eaten alive by the S4 AP5 fire that is so common, unless they are 1- in a transport or 2-hauling pointy-eared tush. The platform makes both of those options void...yeah.

Any others?

Yes he doesn't have a bolter....but his has a S10 master craffted Thunder hammers for [email protected]#k sake! If he can hit it then it's dead

I can tell your not an Eldar player. If you want foot sloggers then you go with dire avengers. Guardians are used to old objectives and lend support, nothing more.
So ya that was easy
