Does anyone recall if a long time ago there was a relationship between Warhammer40k and the mechwarrior universe. I recall they also had geneseed and other similarities.

There was a Star League of perfect knights who seeing curruption left to another galaxy - their geneseed was something they were born with and worthy knights had their geneseed honoured by allowing it into the breeding programs. The fought in mechs but had ground troops who looked identical to space marines.

They also fought in chapters or clans with names like "the Ghost Bears" and "Jade Falcons", was there ever a connection?

There might be some borrowed ideas from the two franchises, but I dont think there is actually any real ties.

I know of the blinding obvious between mechwarrior and robotech/macross, but if theres anything 40k related I must of missed it, and may just be coincidence since its very easy for sci-fi settings to have similarities.......unless its written by GW, then there blatent rip-offs of obscure sci-fis.

In the Mechwarrior (the game is actually called Battletech, mechwarrior is just an "off shoot" of battletech) universe (for the clans), when a warrior displayed excelent martial skill in an area(s) then their dna was put into the clan vault. It was always several generations before the dna was mixed with dna from the other sex to create a "sibko" (which is the vat grown humans) that become Mechwarriors or Elementals.
Now, the clan warriors that you said looked like the space marines? Those were "Elementals". They were humans that were bred from the vats to be extremely large so they would fit into the big suits of armor and they were incredibly strong (kind of a duh because of their size). Unlike space marines, they were not genetically altered in any way other than being genetically bred in the vats. A space marine is made into a space marine from all the implants and surgeries where as a clan elemental is merely bred to be an elemental and is not altered in any way . A clan elemental is born specifically to be an elemental.
I really dont think there is any connection between the two. I can see where someone could take the loose similarities and argue the fact, like the elementals/space marines or battlemechs (the large robots the humans fought in)/the titans in 40K, but they are two completely different worlds. Battletech took place up to the 32nd century. That would directly conflict with the time line of 40K. I think that's more a case of coincidence than anything really.

I suppose the big difference is the mechwarrior universe is mostly self contained - humans v humans with no alien enemies. Whilst 40k is the opposite.
Makes me wonder .....

Also, there are female Elementals. If I remember correctly, there was at least one female Elemental in The Jade Phoenix trilogy for some time. THough it has been quite some time since that little gem of a book series for me. xp

Yes there are female elementals. A position in the warrior caste (battlemech pilot, elemental, or aero space pilot) wasnt limited to just males. When they were born in the sibko, that sibko was specifically born to a certain task of the warrior caste. Alot of them wont be up to the exacting standards of the specific job they were born to so they will be reassigned to another caste. In the clan society there is no waste, everything is used until it cant be used any more.

They both guard technology jealously from all outsiders, don't fully understand the tech they have, and believe that the incantations they repeat before the machines help make them work.

I'm not entirely sure either. I know that I've cannibalized some old mech warriors stuff for use in my kit bashing. Made a really cool Ork Deffkopta out of lots of mech bits.
