If an IG army is mechanized, can they fill all 6 slots with armoued fist squads? or is it still 3 and 3 of each? I dont want to have to include extra Co squads for the platoons.

Nope, still required to take a platoon for each AF squad.

With Grenadiers, you can use Storm Troopers as Troops in Chimeras instead if you wish... Otherwise, the 1/1 Platoon/Fist ratio stands.

mechanised means simply that everything can be in a chimera even if it would not ususally be allowed to. so your platoon squads would be in a chimera reducing the need for a AF squad.

The down side is that your compulsory units for a standard mission need FOUR Chimeras (unless you go the grenadiers/stormtroopers route), which uses up a lot of points making Guard less effective IMO.

But the command squad with four plasma guns and a plasma pistol jumping out of a chimera is always good fun.

Actually, it's five Chimeras, 1 x HQ, 3 x minimum platoon and 1 x Armored Fist..........
