Hi guys

Heres a character I made up a while ago and his background fluff.

Quint originated on the edge of the Creiffdon system on the small planet of Balquidder. Balquidder is a small ball of rock that is near identical in terrain to the its larger brother Creiff and like Creiff it has a out-post of the Adeptus Mechanicus on it to monitor the quality of ore levels. In M41.989-4 the planet was raided by a force of the Chaos Space Marines of the Black Legion Chapter fleeing from the Emperors retribution after the failed Thirteenth Black Crusade. The raiding party numbered 10 chaos marines and a force of about 1000 traitor Imperial Guard. Their objective was the headquarters of the Adeptus Mechanicus in the main city of Balquidder Magna as they were in dire need of parts to fix several of their of tanks which had been badly damaged in the recent conflict. They fell upon the planet with a vengeance and the local PDF were quickly over run. The traitors knew that it was only a matter of days before a force from Creiff arrived to drive the raiding party back. As the PDF had been completely destroyed the Chaos Commander (a marine by the name of Aleznon) thought that the city had been pacified, but what he had not considered was the city population. They rose up and quickly marched on strategic locations that were under the control of the Traitor Space Marines. That was until the Chaos Havocs on over-watch ripped through the militia with their heavy bolters killing much of the experienced fighters in the city. The people of Balquidder Magna then turned to guerrilla warfare until the Creiffdons arrived to help push Black Legion out of the city and off the planet. It was in the following days that a teenage orphan became a hero of the resistance and ultimately one of the Creiffdon regiments most able lieutenants.

The boy who would become Quint was born 17 years before the aforementioned incident in Balquidder Magna to a poor dockworker and his young wife. Unable to support their new child they decided that it was best to leave the baby on the door step of the local orphanage. The orphanage took him in without question. As with all the orphans in the system he was named after a hero of the Imperium, in this case it was Quint, Ace of Aces a Thunderbolt pilot of the Apostles. As he grew up he showed dedication to the Emperor, a will to learn and maturity far behind his years. He was a quiet child and kept to himself for much of his childhood. He excelled at his studies and by the time he was 17 he had learned much of the contents of the orphanage library. This is not to say that he was a book worm. Though he spent much of his time reading he also spent his time putting the things he had learned into practice. He was well versed in the fighting styles of the Imperial Guard and could recite much of the Imperial Guardsman Uplifting Primer by heart. He was never bullied not because the other children feared him but because they respected him. Unknowingly he had become a natural leader.

When the leaders of the community rounded up every able bodied man and women to fight the Chaos Marines Quint spoke up and questioned the method in which they were going about the attack. He rightly asked whether a full on assault on the Traitors was the most effective use of the skills which were in the group and instead suggested fighting the invaders in a hit and fade method. He was told to sit down and shut up by the leaders which he did without question. Quint and his fellow orphans were placed in the force of 1000 that was sent to recapture the Adeptus Mechanicus HQ. However on the march to the Adeptus Mechanicus HQ he secretly organised amongst his peers a group which he felt was loyal to him and smart enough to keep it quiet. He manoeuvred this group towards the back of the column and when the heavy bolters opened fire he and his friends got into cover quickly. From there he managed to rally the remainder of the militia and turned a rout into a organised retreat. Despite the losses already taken the leaders of the community tried to prevent Quint from pulling back. Quint was forced to show ruthless leadership and had to shot two of them before they allowed him to pull back the militia.

Once they were put of range of the traitors Quint quickly reorganised the militia into squads and told them to fight in whatever way they felt would be best. He took his squad and began to make hit and run attacks on the enemy. In the process of this he linked up with other groups which had failed in their attacks on their objectives and were running scared from the Chaos forces who were running riot through the city. Gathering the most experienced fighters he could find Quint made a daring raid on a enemy held ammunition dump which had been taken over early on in the conflict. It was at this point that he found what would become his signature weapons. The dump was poorly guarded by 50 Traitor Guard and the fight for control it was over in a matter of minutes. Most of the storage facility had been emptied by the time Quint spied a small room in which some of the most sacred and old weaponry was held. In that room he found a matching pair of Odharian Pattern Plasma Pistols. These pistols have become extremely rare after the forge world of Odhar was over run by Orcs 500 years before. What made these pistols special was that they did not overheat and were capable of firing faster and at a longer range than normal Plasma pistols. How they ended up in that ammo dump is unknown but from then on they have rested in Quints hands.

At this point the relief force from Creiff arrived under the command of Commander Blackblade himself. The Chaos Marines were getting desperate and while their fleet held up the loyalist forces in space they began to move the parts and their forces to the various shuttle pads around the city. Quint had been waiting for this and had set up numerous road blokes to slow down the enemy forces so that his guerrilla squads ,now heaver armed, could take their toll on the enemy forces. It was then that Quint allowed his forces who were not involved with the ambushes to take back the Adeptus Mechanicus HQ. Clothed in Flak Armour and armed with his pistols Quint managed to get within 15 meters of the base before the remaining Space Marines caught sight of him. They were silenced by Quint’s men but not quickly enough. All hell broke loose as Aleznon abandoned the remaining supplies and withdrew all his forces. What followed was a frantic chase as Quint’s men pursued the enemies Rhinos through the city in trucks and cars armed with weapons bolted on. By this time Imperial Forces had broken through the blockade and were taking back lost ground. Quint finally caught up with Aleznon at one of the shuttle pads. Quint’s forces had broken down the gates and were charging towards the shuttle pad where the Traitors were loading the stolen parts. Seeing that only a force of about 500 civilians faced him Aleznon ordered his men to charge. Quint’s men with remarkable bravery held their ground. What Aleznon hadn’t known was that the ’civilians’ were armed with the contents of the ammo dump and by the time his forces reached the Imperial line only four of his brothers were left (three having been killed in previous engagements) and a good half of the traitor guard were also lying in the dirt. What followed was a bloodbath. The Traitor marines cut huge holes in the Imperial lines but due to their size they were perfect targets for snipers concealed in the surrounding buildings. In the middle of it all Quint confronted Aleznon. With a roar the Black Legion commander charged at him, without a word Quint stood his ground and shot him through the head, heart and groin. Seeing the enemy leader laid low the forces of Chaos broke and fled. None made it to the their shuttles.

Quint and his fellow militia were inducted into the Creiffdon PDF two weeks later at a memorial service for all that had died during the raid/invasion. When the call for a new regiment came to help put down the mutant uprisings in the Shalimen Sectors Quint was given a field promotion to the rank of Lieutenant placed in charge of the Third company, made up of the men and women that he fought with on Balquidder. From there he has gone to become a highly respected unit commander and tactician and it is he who is tipped to become the commander of the Creiffdon 2nd Regiment when its current commander dies.

Points: 100

A Creiffdon Shadowdogs army of 1,000 points or more may include Lieutenant Quint. If you take him then he counts as one of the H.Q. choices for the army. He must be used exactly as described below, and may not be given any additional equipment.

Weapons: Two Odharian Pattern Plasma Pistols, Frag Grenades and a Trademark Item (Pistols).

Special Rules:

Odharian Pattern Plasma Pistols: These unique and deadly weapons have been Quints weapons of choice ever since he found them in the ruins a Adeptus Mechanicus station on his planet of Balquidder during a Chaos invasion of the planet. They have a longer range and can fire faster than standard Plasma Pistols but do not the same amount of pure power than the standard model. Despite this they are more than capable of destroying most targets within their range.

Range: 16 inchs
S: 5
AP: 3
Type: Pistol 2 (2 each pistol, so 4 shots)

Because of their lesser power the pistols do not suffer from the Gets Hot rule. Quint also uses them in close-combat and counts as being armed with a single power weapon.

Son Of Balquidder: Quint is a fully fledged member of the Creiffdon 2nd Regiment "The Sons of Balquidder". He therefore benefits from the following doctrines:

No Retreat No Surrender (Counts as Chem-inhaler)
Light Infantry
Hardened Fighter (bonus included above).

C & C wanted as always.

i think they are a bit overpowered for even a normal human to be carrying into battle as far as atmosphere goes...
why dont you keep the AP value the same as a plasma pistol/gun/cannon.. but lower the strength to something a bit weaker.. like 4 if your getting a full four shots out of it.. or 5 and reduce the number of shots to two and make them twin linked?

good overall idea though.. i like it :D

Hmm I thought I had replyed to this post already but obviously not.

Looking back at it now I see your point, he's now strenght 5, which makes the pistols, 1 less AP and 2 less strenght than a normal Plasma weapon. Don't forget that he's pretty weak in the toughness department. He's really ment as a fluff character rather than a playing one.
