The League of Ruin is a warband coalition of Traitor Marines based near the Eastern Fringe and above the Charadon sector.
During and after the Battle of Terra, organized structure within the Traitor Legions had already started to degrade. After Abaddon ordered the retreat to the Eye of Terror, there were elements within the legions who thought such a command cowardly and unwise. These astartes broke with their legions and went their own way. One such group made their way to the Eastern Fringes, where several planets had already been swayed to the traitors' cause during the Heresy. This group solidified their holdings and established a base here. Over the centuries, they have fended off attempts by the Ultramarines and their successor chapters to dislodge them, but the traitors stood firm, attracting yet more renegades to their cause. This coallition became known as the League of Ruin. To them, the Battle of Terra was simply a lost battle, as opposed to a catastrophic loss, and they plot for only the destruction of the Imperium. They hold disdain for their former brothers in the Eye of Terror, who are content to war with each other for nightmare worlds and petty empires.
The League of Ruin is rather secular for a group of Traitors, viewing the Ruinous Powers as a potent ally, but have no wish to be enslaved as their bretheren have been. One might see the League as a motley group, but they possess great diversity. They are essentially a group of powerful warbands united in a common cause. These warbands are referred to as "assemblies." These assemblies are highly flexible, and the term refers as much to the era and chronology of the assembly as it does to its staus as a warband, like the Crusades of the Black Templars or the WAAAAGGHH's of the Orks. Their leadership specializes in cold logic and ruthless excecution, preferring pragmatism to foolish heroics and notions of honor or bravery. Rather than infiltration and insurgency, they prefer to work their way into a position and explode to life, a burst of fire in the heart of the Imperium.
Currently, the League is engaged in numerous conflicts with the Tau EMpire, due to their proximity to the Eastern Fringe.
Prominent Lords:
~Korovus: One of the original members of the League. Korovus' assemblies specialize in assault. Korovus himself was a captain in the Luna Wolves during the Great Crusade, and possessed his own jump pack, which he has extensively modified. It now possessed a quartet of fold-up wings, affording great manouverablity and giving him the image of a dark, four-winged angel. His preffered weapon is an ancient power halberd. He has a crude, somewhat reckless demeanor, yet is very intelligent and is a skilled tactician. He has been the head of the anti-Tau offensive, cutting into their ranks like a wolf going in for the kill.
~Alimon: A Daemon Prince who joined the League sometime in the 35th millenium. He had spent millenia after the heresy building up his power, working his way to daemonhood and amassing a formidable warband. He then approached the League and lended his own warriors to the cause. As a daemon, Aliman considers himself superior to 'lowly' astartes and plans to one day rule the league. He is, however, a formidable opponent, having survived eons in the Eye of Terror and leading his men to victory after victory. On the battlefield, Alimon is a half-glimpsed specter; his opponents see only the vague notion of a montrous creature, and they are terrified by what they cannot see, but what they know is too terrible to behold. Alimon then appears in the midst of their ranks, utters an unearthly battlecry and cuts into them with claws made of lightning and horns made of fire that can launch magical blasts.
~Garistar: Another of the founding members of the League. No one knows what Legion this mysterious Lord hailed from, but he is feared and respected by nearly all. He wears an ancient suit of Terminator armor, the colors of midnight blue and bright silver. He carries an enormous axe which he wields with deadly speed and technique. In his Assemblies he has been noted as striking a balance between assault and firepower, but in battle, his advance in constant and unrelenting, consuming all opposition.
There are many other Lords, and at least 4 others that make up the highest echelons of the League. It continues to gain power with each passing day as more and more astartes are drafted to its cause. The day will come when the Imperium will be consumed by the fire within and upon these ashes the League of Ruin will claim the galaxy for Chaos.
