I've been looking at some of the army lists floating around here and I'm seeing a lot of variety (which is awesome). It's kind of cool to see some of the more fun, fluffy lists as well as some of the hard-pimpin lists.

Gives me some examples to learn from so I can play at multiple levels. Learn a bit from Longbeard and become more effective, Learn a bit from The Son Of Horus about balanced armies that fit the fluff.

I'm not a very good player. more of a hobbyist painter/ collector, but I'm improving.

It's cool to learn stuff, and have variety to learn from (a lot of places are pretty weighted one way or another).

Despite what many think, a variety of lists can be effective in the right hands. I love the fact that we do see a variety, since it shows that success in 40k on a tactical and strategic level is as individual as the player. Unlike many games, I honestly believe 40k lends itself to individuality of play and composition. Kudos to GW for making a great game and kudos to our members and players who recognize the power of diversity.

My Tau list is a perfect example. I posted it once on either Dakka or Tau Online and had it smacked down harshly because it didn't have the 'accepted' 3 Hammerheads or the 'accepted' Stealth suit units. Was told repeatedly that my list sucked because of the footslogging Firewarriors and the Marker Drones in the squads, etc. Yet I have found this list to be the most effective one I have used and it is all because I have my own individual playstyle and the list fits it perfectly.

Now granted I will nudge people in this direction when giving list advice for the same reason but that doesn't mean they will have the same success with the list that I do. For them, Stealth suits and Vespids may be the way to go. This is kind of the reason why you won't see me in the Army List forum as often as other places as army lists are very much something that has to be made and decided on by the interested player and how they like their army to function.
