I don't think it's too competitive myself. Looks fun though I don't understand why the skewed numbwers in the NM squads.

good hunting.

I don't know about most groups, but just because a game is "friendly" doesn't mean it needs to be "bad." I only play friendly games, and I use most of those all the time. I only stopped using lash princes not because of the friendly game environment I play in, but because they've really only proven useful against one of my friends--and even then he's learned to finally take more than one unit of Nob Bikers so I stop lashing them back to his table edge. Unless your friends are generally either poor sports or you just normally completely school them every time you play, I wouldn't be too stressed about being "too competitive."

I do have to agree with Malaclypse though... looks good, but those are some strange numbers. If you're doing a 1500 point game you at least have enough to give that last Noise Marine a Sonic Blaster.

The only other suggestion I have is to try to work in Blastmasters instead of the Doombolt Sorcerer. Doombolt is nice if you just want a cheap power to put on a Thousand Sons Aspiring Sorcerer or even a discount Daemon Prince just so he has something to do on his way to close combat, but it's really not good enough to center a Sorcerer around just having that power. That and the Blastmaster is pretty much amazing. Str 8 AP 3 pinning blast... I almost always run a pair of Noise Marines, and those guns alone are usually 1/3 of their kills. Might not be worth it if you plan on them moving every turn, but if they'll spend at least a couple turns standing still firing in Heavy mode the Blastmasters should make back their points easily, barring any freakish dice issues.

Taking out the Doombolt Sorcerer would give you exactly enough points from that alone (not counting what you have left over already) to replace two Sonic Blasters with Blastmasters and add one more Noise Marine with a Sonic Blaster to the unit of 7.

If Blastmasters don't suit your tastes, you could use the points to add three more Noise Marines with Sonic Blasters and upgrade that one Power Weapon to a Power Fist with 10 points left over for the price of that Doombolt Sorcerer. Or you could take a 6th Obliterator and one Sonic Blaster Noise Marine.

The skewed numbers in the NM squads are due to the fact that the ten man squad is composed of some models I bought off a mate on Monday and which are considerably better than my own in terms of appearence.

@Whizzwang, that's pretty much my worry, especially since I only normally run two or three Obliterators. Only problem is I'm not sure what I could do to preserve a degree of competitiveness without being too competitive.

Get rid of Lash. If your opponents are guaranteed 100% control of their units they can't really complain if they get blown to bits.

When playing for fun there is no reason you can't annihilate your opponent, but doing it on his terms is better than dragging him about with lash and pinning his ass to the floor while you destroy him.

Whooping his ass needs to be fun for HIM, not you. I've had some amazingly fun games where I go tcrushed, but as I was in complete control of my army, it was my fault.

You seem to have built a "stand here and nuke the fuck out of you" army. Those are never EVER fun to play against.

I'd add some combat stuff, maybe a Defiler.

A couple of units you can throw away to get killed so your opponent feels like they have accomplished something and don't get disheartened would be good.

Case in point. I'm good at WFB, very good. Recently we had a young guy of 12 start to play in our store. Normally I'd avoid playing someone so new and young but he kept asking and asking to have a go against my O+G's. As there was a "no denial of the same opponent more than 3 times" rule in effect for the campaign I was eventulallt forced to play him

I could have crushed him but instead I threw my unit of Black Orcs at his Hydra knowing full well they would die. He was over the moon, nobody had killed that unit before in the store and he was the first, that was fun for him to brag about but at the same time, it tar pitted his hydra for a few turns while I traded blows with some other units. I threw my BSB unit away in front of his dragon and he crushed it.

Granted this was me throwing the game as safely as I could and making judgment calls a kid won't spot as "he's taking a dive" but it was fun for him despite the fact I tabled him.

Army composition is the best way to allay fears.

Lash + Oblits + PM + NM says "no fun" as soon as you see it.

Spice the list up with some random smack you don't normally use if it's only a friendly knockaboout.

whizzwang said it best. Just use units you normally wont just for the sake of trying them out and having fun. Try out some thousand sons or even possessed ( they are hilarious )

Good point there Whizzwang (love the new avatar), so here's the new list:

Lucius the Eternal - 160 points.

Huron Blackheart - 170 points.

9 Noise Marines, 9 Sonic Blasters, Champion with Doom Siren & Powerweapon, Rhino - 305 points.

9 Noise Marines, 9 Sonic Blasters, Champion with Doom Siren & Powerweapon, Rhino with Dozer Blade - 310 points.

9 Noise Marines, 10 Sonic Blasters, Champion with Doom Siren & Powerweapon, Rhino with Dozer Blade - 310 points.
(Yes I know lots of Noise Marines, but I did buy a lot of them)

3 Obliterators - 150 points.

Okay, so it's not the most unusual list, but I'm constrained by having to pick from what I have (I'm playing tomorrow night and I can't afford any more new stuff), but in a way it is. The mate I bought my new stuff off was going for a Swordsmen theme with Lucius and his leading acolytes as the Warband, so I'm kinda of sticking with his theme.

good rule of thumb, if you have to ask if its too competetive, then you already know it is.
An army of chaos spawn.

"Guys is this too good?"

Whooping his ass needs to be fun for HIM, not you. I've had some amazingly fun games where I go tcrushed, but as I was in complete control of my army, it was my fault.
One of the most fun games I've had to date was a game where I played eldar. I -hate- eldar. So I began running my graceful, beautiful ships at his rhinos while roaring like a templar. "CRUSH PUNY MEHREEN METAL BOXES" this while my ill-fated graceful specialist inside just cheered when we drove headlong into disaster after disaster. His army was uncompetitive, but he beat the snot out of me.

Plus I finally got to use a perfectly-annunciated accent the entire game.
"Our transporT has explodED." no sense of competition was felt the entire game. Shit was fun.

I've used Thousand Sons plenty of times and my Possessed look like they're made of terracotta that's been left in the rain to the point where it's started to crumble.

there is a difference between asking when you know, and asking because your a moron, that would come in the latter.
Is this an FAQ you've established? I didn't see a copyright date on that last rule you posted.

Also you just don't understand Stella. Chaos spawn are amazing! Fourty points for three wounds, no saves? How can I NOT take them!

The lack of proper grammar in this thread is staggering.

OP - I personally don't think Lash is ever friendly. I also don't think Special Characters are all that friendly, so your second list might be worse, but thats just me.

The second list is fairly midline for a friendly environment (so exactly what you're looking for). Lucius and Huron are, respectively, Mid and Low tier HQs while still being efficient if used correctly.

Although to be fair i didn't think the first list was that bad. As far as im concerned, Lash lists don't start to reek of cheeze until you've ventured into double Lash-Prince territory. Sorcerors are comparatively tame.
