Me and my mate intend to go to the gt next year so have been reading up on stuff about it on the net. The people at our GW say its not worth going unless you have ironwarriors and ive read similar comments on here and other forums in the last month or so. It seems before everyone went on about eldar and them being unbeatable and now IW even though the resluts show that the top spots aren't all IW.
I have played them twice at GW and though they have been hard games they haven't been impossible and with a few changes to my army i think the minor win and minor loss i had to them would prob become better wins in my favour.
So why all the fuss, im not even that good, i prob win 2 out 3 games so i'm ok.

In a 1500 pt game, you can take 9 Obliterators, 4 IF HS choices, min troops and a nasty DP. Armylists can be powerful, but they don't necessarily play themselves, thus why you don't see the same armylist win every GT. But, don't kid yourself, the IW builds are very nasty.

though after 4 odd years of pretty much the same kind of IW net lists ppl know what to do and they are getting butchered this year.

Problem with these powerful net lists is that sooner or later everyone clocks them by playing them so often and they loose thier edge.

I've done every well every year i've gone, always quailified when there was a need, often came top 20 or twice better, never resorted to net list beard out cheese.

These lists will fail vs a particular type of army, for IW last year it was my nid horde. I know spikydavid who took the ork horde at heat 3 would laugh at the idea that IW are a nessisty - he's been taking orks for 3 odd years now and came 2nd this year!

Joe struge took a nid horde based around mine and came in the top 10.

One flame on'er took necrons and came 5th in heat 1 (or round there) and Jerridan took mech marines and came 9th.

Balanced, well played lists that can face down eveything the world has will end up always doing better than net list spam.

Go with an army you like the look of, choose units you think look/are cool, then learn to play it to perfection.
