so, i've decided to start an iron hands SM army, the question is what codex should i use to acheive this, BA has the option of more dreadnoughts then reg marines and faster transports which would sujest the iron hands affinity for mechanical perfection. SW would not fit at all i think. Black templar has some of the best tank hunting dreadnoughts, and then theres the nilla Space marines, w/ Motf i could us 6 dreads and still have some options. so what to choose i needz da help plzzzzz:read:...dont think DA would work either...

in the end. its just what ever you want to. the MotF is whats intended by GW, but its what you feel will match 'your tribe' of iron hands.
i play a AdMech themed army and use pupps rules. just make it look the part, and play your way. like for wolfguard, i use paladin knight titains. techmarine as ragnar.

Codex: Space Marines is the way to go, as you've already stated you can have the Master of the Forge as your HQ.

I think you've gotten confused as to the relationship the Iron Hands have with Dreadnoughts- they revere them to be sure but they don't have very many of them (probably less than any other first founding chapter excluding the White Scars who don't use them).

At the Dropsite Massacre Ferrus Manus spearheaded the assault with the absolute best of his legion, the Morlocks and this included most of their terminators and dreadnoughts. When they were all killed this left the legion with very few of either which is why they are more revered and used in more of a command role than anything else. So having many dreadnoughts/termies wouldn't really fit with 40k army, maybe a 30k though.

Wolves rules let you have terminators as sarges, which is a big part of IHs fluff. Plus you could use Thunderwolf lord rules for a dreadnought as an HQ which would fit the fluff quite nicely.

I use Space Wolves for my Iron Hands sometimes and the Vanilla Marines sometimes. Ah, the joys of playing Space Marines! :eek:k:

With Space Wolves you can take a Dread as an HQ, which is pretty fluffy, though not the best of choices there. More importantly you can have Terminators lead your Grey Hunters, which perfectly fits the Iron Hands backround of having Terminator sergeants.

Vanilla Marines, otoh, gives you the Master of the Forge and other cool techmarine goodies.
