I've really been thinking of including a Daemonhunter Inquisitor with HB servators and a chimera into my BA army. They make for a killer anti-troop firebase, something that my melta-heavy mobile BA list lacks

Does anyone here use inquisitors on a regular basis? Are they worth the points? What's the best way to use them? Would a pimped up Lord and retinue be anywhere near as useful and killy as Mephiston?

I'm of the opinion that an Inquisitor's best use as an ally is a single Inquisitor bearing a psychic hood in an IG army. Keep him as cheap as possible, as with any other army there will be a unit that can perform better than the Inquisitor w/ retinue.

I know 501st just starting using demonhunters for his IG army allies. He's running an assassin, an Inquistor, and a squad of grey knights I believe. I will point him over here to give his thoughts.

In my opinion, there are to kinds of inquisitors: those whom you plan to do things with, and those who are just there because they confer certain bonuses. (The psychic hood inquisitor is an example) For the latter, I prefer to take an emperors tarot, which practically guaruntees me the first turn in a non-Apocalypse game, and if I'm facing my usual opponent (Eldar), a psychic hood to protect high profile troops from Mind War.

As for the pimped out inquisitor, yes, they are worth it, but you pretty much have to tailor them to each opponent. For instance, my eldar killing inquisitor and retinue which is all shooting is not the one I would choose to take when facing, say, chaos space marines.

Anyway, I'm mainly rambling now, but basically, I find inquisitors can be worth the points no matter how you use them; as support or on the front lines. Go for it dude.

what do you suggest?

An inq lord so it does not take up an elite choice.
a hood(yay leadership 10).
maybe Emperor tarot(no idea on the point costs though)
also no idea what powers to give him as i hope to use him simply for the hood. 87 points(before tarot and powers seems expensive for a hood)
also unsure of gear, should i just give him a bolter?
I would assume 2 mystics to deter deepstrikers or at least that las plas squad have a go at em first.

and maybe a warrior to take wounds with his 4+ save mainly because i have no idea what his third should be.

Ive played around with inquisitor lords before and honestly theyre really not worth it for a few reasons.

1. They lose the effect of the individual character which allows players to shot at them rather than not.

2. they're just not enough of a power house... theres probably at least 5 different choices that you could make other than him that would dish out alot more trouble.

3. Their psychic powers and abilities are really only useful in close proximity. So they really need to be combat heavy.

Alternatively I would suggest a low point inquisitor with something special. (like a hood. or liber heresius) and use it to unlock greater threats... like a assasin.

There is no reason to field an inquisitor lord other than maybe the plasma cannons that it opens up to your use... but even then the squad is insanely expensive.

If you also like assassins, as my friend that plays BA does, then the inq with the retinue is a very nice choice as he as well has very little anti-troop choices. The only problem is that, this way you feel 2 elites choices or hq/elite and you are left with less for your main army, and especially for blood angels, you don't get the death company guy for free for such units... maybe in more than 1500 points armies would be nice.
