I've always wanted to do a Apothecarian chapter with the Purity Above All trait. After searching hard, I think I've got the bare bones of a good idea for the chapter.

They will be The Purifiers or Purifying Angels, or _____ (ideas welcome)

Chapter colors are quartered blood red and bone white with opposite red and bone shoulder markings. Chapter symbol is a single red heart on the bone shoulder pad and normal squad markings on the red shoulder pad in bone.

Traits currently are: Purity Above All, Heed the Wisdom of the Ancients
Disadvantages are: Flesh Over Steel, Death Before Dishonor

The main idea is this... The Chapter embodies the idea of healing, life enduring, the healing light of the Emperor. I'm stuck on how they were created or when. They do not want to waste life in an attempt to be as immortal as the Emperor so that they may protect thier god for millenia to come. Therefore, they have more dreadnoughts than many chapters and field more apothecaries on average than most.

The list will have a Chaplain in terminator armor heading it with a Command Squad. Terminators will be extremely rare in chapter only given to the highest Officers and thier retinues. Apothecaries will be advanced in the battlefield by drop pod to directly get to those wounded.

Well.. after some work, I think I got it going good below. Any C&C is welcome.

well I did come with a bit that is getting me going... more to come....

Index Astartes: The Purifiers

The Purifiers were discovered during an unknown founding. Imperial records show their homeworld of Concras III was a temperate world. Rolling hills and low gravity on the world made the inhabitants very sturdy in frame and strong to the norms of regular humans. An Imperial Censor found the world and reported it back to Terra to be researched and recorded. An Inquisition presence was made to research the world and make sure these sturdy humans were pure and without mutation. The Inquisitor present made his recommendation to Terra that these humans showed very resilient and the return message instructed the Inquisitor to bring some of the inhabitants back for study.

Once back on Terra, the High Lords of Terra realized that this could be a potential new chapter in the making. The inhabitants that took test geneseed were showing much promise in adapting to geneseed. The geneseed of the Ultramarine chapter were used on the test subjects as it is the most stable. Unfortunatley, there was a unforseen defect that would become apparent a bit too late.

More of the inhabitants of Concras III were brought to Terra to start the process of becoming Space Marines. The High Lords of Terra dubbed the new chapter, the Lightning Talons. They were to retain their homeworld of Concras III and the inhabitants would be used to generate more potential candidates. A Chapter Master was appointed, Cassius Metor. He would oversee the organization of this new chapter of Space Marines and have them ready for their first action.

The location of Concras III was near the Tau Empire, and their discovery was a huge bonus in the defense of that part of space as the cursed religion of the Tau were infecting nearby citizens and they were discovering pockets of rebellion more and more. The Lightning Talons would soon see their first action and also find out their biggest weakness.

On a nearby world to the Homeworld, a Tau resistance pocket showed itself in the citizenry and the Lightning Talons were dispatched to quell the resistance. The fighting became fierce as the rebels were extremely dug in and there were many casualties on both sides. Cassius Metor realized that many of his battle brothers were falling too easy. That they were succumbing to wound that they should shrug off. The resistance was stamped out, but Cassius force suffered many casualties and would be coming back very short handed. Research was done on those recovered battle brothers and the news ended up being grim. The Lightning Talons had a defect in their geneseed. The Laraman’s Organ that usually seals any light wound a Space Marine might suffer seemed deficient. It wasn't sealing like it was meant to and it was making medium wounds lethal in the Chapters marines. There had been casualties before in training and indoctrination, but those that fell had been dubbed too weak to handle what they were going through and written off. The defect between host and geneseed would not be able to be discovered until they had been in their first mass combat.

This worried Cassius Metor and his captains. If they were to fall in the numbers that they did during the uprising, the Chapter would be dead in years. There needed to be someway to quell this defect or keep it at bay until a cure or adjustment in the geneseed. The temporary solution was to increase the amount of Apothecaries that the Chapter trained and the other was to make sure that those worthy that could not be saved due to the defect in the Laraman's Organ would still go on fighting as fierce as they ever had. Authorization had been made by the High Lords of Terra for the Mechanica to produce more Dreadnoughts for the Chapter to employ in exchange for less Tactical Dreadnough armor. Measures needed to be taken to make sure that while this defect continued that the Chapters numbers would not suffer and the Lightning Talons would be able to fight on. This meant that changes would have to be made in the way their combat doctrine was laid out. They now preferred ranged combat, the Lightning Talons previously had preferred bikes and assault troops to face their enemy. They still employed those troops, but they took more of a cautious attitude on the battlefield. The near indestructable Dreadnoughts that housed the Chapters hero's were seen often on the battlefield as if they became crippled, they could be prepared easier than the Marines who were falling to lesser wounds.

Apothecaries were also trained in high numbers and were deployed in drop pods leading troops into battle. They were dropped in the danger zones so that they would be able to find and administer aid to their fallen brothers much quicker than they would in normal situations. These changes helped stabilize the numbers of the Lightning Talons and they started to really find the wisdom they found in making life continue. Whether it was by allowing a fallen hero to fight again in their own sarcophagus or quickly administer aid to the fallen, they became enamored by their own healing abilities and it soon started to become the backbone of their belief. The Lightning Talons were soon to lose the moniker that didn't really fit them anymore. Cassius Metor soon declared that they would be known as The Purifiers. They would find a way to reverse their defect, they find a way to make themselves continue on near immortally so that they may protect their own immortal god for many many millennia to come.

Combat Doctrine:
Due to the defect between their physiology and the geneseed used to create them, The Purifiers prefer ranged combat. Being Space Marines, they believe that there is no force on Terra or in the galaxy that can best them in a shoot out and so to help minimize losses, they have taken up the practice of shooting their opponents down. They do have units that will assault, but they are protected until need either by bike, speeder, or drop pod. They will use mechanized units, though in all of the work and research to fix their genetics they have not procured many vehicles and you would rarely see more than a few Land Raiders, Predators, Razorbacks, and others. Their Apothecary ranks are large. Most are used in Drop Pods to gain access to the heaviest part of the battlefield. They are then protected by an escort squad while they attend to the more grievous wounds on the battlefield. They are also trained in combat as well as any marine, so have no problem defending themselves or becoming part of the offensive during a well planned and executed battleplan. Once the battle starts to subside, the Apothecaries set to work mopping up and trying to save and recover who they can, and this sometimes leads to the enemy trying to gain one last advantage before finally being repelled one last time. Without the aid of many Tactical Dreadnought suits in the exchange for more Dreadnoughts, The Purifiers Dreadnoughts often take the battlefield offering their continued assistance to hold off injuries to the living. The younger of the Dreadnoughts prefer to act in the role of support, using as much firepower as they can to cover those advancing. The older, more venerable dreadnoughts have spent the ages in a support role and have gained the confidence to help in the advancing role. Using heavy weapon and fist to help keep enemies at bay while the assaulting troops advance position. They will also cover the Apothecaries path to the wounded becoming a mobile bunker and firebase for which the wounded can be tended to in less danger.

Gene-Seed
The geneseed used to create the Purifiers originally came from the Ultramarines stock. The inhabitants of Concras III seemed able to fully utilize the geneseed of a Space Marine, but it was unknown that their physiology would somehow not completely accept the geneseed and this defect in their physiology is what makes them slightly easier to wound and kill than a normal Space Marine. The Apothecaries of the Chapter work diligently decade after decade to find a genetic cure to make themselves whole.

Organization
The Purifiers are organized by codex standards with the exceptions to a heavier contingent of Dreadnoughts and a lighter contingent of Tactical Dreadnought armor. For this reason, the First Company consists of the normal Veteran and Terminator squads, but Dreadnoughts have also become First Company to substitute the thin ranks of Terminators the Chapter employs. The Headquarters staff is setup the same as normal Chapters. This is also where most of the Tactical Dreadnought suits are contained. The Chapters highest officers must survive at all costs, so Commanders, Chaplains, Librarians and their Commands usually employ Terminator suits on the battlefied.

Beliefs
The Purifiers believe in their own skill at healing. They continue to find new and innovative ways to keep themselves and others alive as well as ways to keep an individual productive even when a mortal wound might take them or cripple them. They believe in the healing power of the Emperors light and believe that they themselves have been somehow chosen by the Emperor to hold this power. The Apothecaries hold a theory that if they continue to research their own genetic defect and make themselves complete, then maybe someday they will be able to research a way to bring the Emperor himself back to health so that he may purify the galaxy once again and bring peace to Terra.

Appearance
The Chapter appearance is a quartered color scheme. Bone and Red is used with a silver chest eagle and other silver trim. Boltguns are black with a dark red casing. All Marines use helmets in the battlefield and from the Battle Brother to the Cassius himself, you will not see their face during combat. They never take for granted the protection their power armor gives them. The Chapter symbol is a red heart on the bone shoulder pad. The red shoulder pad has squad designation markings. Company markings are on the left kneepad when a kneepad is available on a white background.

Battle Cry
"For Life, for the Emperor, Til Death!"

Traits used are as follows and descriptions on reasoning provided:
Purity Above All- The Chapter uses many more Apothecaries than a normal Chapter and so have more employed on the battlefield.
Heed the Wisdom of the Ancients- So that they would continue to fight on and lessen losses to living Brothers, a deal was made with the High Lords of Terra to aquire more Dreadnoughts in exchange for a lot less Tactical Dreadnought armor suits.

Flesh over Steel- Many of the Chapters resources are used to research and cure their genetic defect, and so as a result there are less vehicles than normally would be seen in a normal Chapter.
Death Before Dishonor- The end of the battle usually ends up with The Purifiers holding the battlefield while the Apothecaries attend. They are very meticulous and also attend to any innocents or allies that have been wounded as well. This can lead to the enemy regrouping at times and attempting one more strike.

I'd like to see at least one Ven Dread dressed up as a former heroic apothecary. Maybe just transporting additional supplies where needed, as it most likely would not have the finess necessary to safely remove geneseed.

Do you really think a 10-Marine Las/Plas squad is necessary? Usually 6 is a good number, and would enable you to add another lascannon in a third squad at no extra cost. Just curious. I, too, had all squads at max strength in my Marine army, though all squads were designed to close in on the enemy, and none carried heavy weaponry.

Thank you, I might do an "ambulance" dred :)

I always max my squads, its a quirk of mine unless i'm putting them in a Razorback. I try not to min max where necessary. The list should have enough firepower without needing another Las hopefully.

Thanks again for the feedback :)

Slightly changed the color scheme than the one I had pictured here. I'm working on the test model, but while I'm waiting on it to be done, a buddy was nice enough to do this up for me...

The one on the right is the Veteran Sergeant Apothecary scheme. (they will have the reductor arm, but that would have taken waaaay too much editing :)

I dont know about the heart....maybe a red cross would be better. Also if the grey were white it might make them seem more "pure" since white is a more pure color. Great backstory, and the rhinos should be ambulances too.

thanks, I like the heart as they are more than "just" medics, when I came up with them I had a "pure of heart" kind of thought in mind which led me to that. The white I did on a test model and I just didn't like how it looked. The grey went on smoother for me, and it also gives them a slightly sombre edge while they are keeping their secret.

I may pack up the transports I use to look like rescue vehicles of sorts, I love the ambulances ideas so far :)

Thanks again for the feedback.

lol, id lov to see ambulances on the table. i dont think anyones ever actually done that. itd look awesome. and i kinda agree with greyskull that the grey just doesnt go wit the red and the "Purifiers" probably wouldnt wear a dark color like grey. maybe darker shade of white or green for i also agree wit you that skull white probably wouldnt work either.
