Combat Doctrine:
Due to the defect between their physiology and the geneseed used to create them, The Purifiers prefer ranged combat. Being Space Marines, they believe that there is no force on Terra or in the galaxy that can best them in a shoot out and so to help minimize losses, they have taken up the practice of shooting their opponents down. They do have units that will assault, but they are protected until need either by bike, speeder, or drop pod. They will use mechanized units, though in all of the work and research to fix their genetics they have not procured many vehicles and you would rarely see more than a few Land Raiders, Predators, Razorbacks, and others. Their Apothecary ranks are large. Most are used in Drop Pods to gain access to the heaviest part of the battlefield. They are then protected by an escort squad while they attend to the more grievous wounds on the battlefield. They are also trained in combat as well as any marine, so have no problem defending themselves or becoming part of the offensive during a well planned and executed battleplan. Once the battle starts to subside, the Apothecaries set to work mopping up and trying to save and recover who they can, and this sometimes leads to the enemy trying to gain one last advantage before finally being repelled one last time. Without the aid of many Tactical Dreadnought suits in the exchange for more Dreadnoughts, The Purifiers Dreadnoughts often take the battlefield offering their continued assistance to hold off injuries to the living. The younger of the Dreadnoughts prefer to act in the role of support, using as much firepower as they can to cover those advancing. The older, more venerable dreadnoughts have spent the ages in a support role and have gained the confidence to help in the advancing role. Using heavy weapon and fist to help keep enemies at bay while the assaulting troops advance position. They will also cover the Apothecaries path to the wounded becoming a mobile bunker and firebase for which the wounded can be tended to in less danger.
Gene-Seed
The geneseed used to create the Purifiers originally came from the Ultramarines stock. The inhabitants of Concras III seemed able to fully utilize the geneseed of a Space Marine, but it was unknown that their physiology would somehow not completely accept the geneseed and this defect in their physiology is what makes them slightly easier to wound and kill than a normal Space Marine. The Apothecaries of the Chapter work diligently decade after decade to find a genetic cure to make themselves whole.
Organization
The Purifiers are organized by codex standards with the exceptions to a heavier contingent of Dreadnoughts and a lighter contingent of Tactical Dreadnought armor. For this reason, the First Company consists of the normal Veteran and Terminator squads, but Dreadnoughts have also become First Company to substitute the thin ranks of Terminators the Chapter employs. The Headquarters staff is setup the same as normal Chapters. This is also where most of the Tactical Dreadnought suits are contained. The Chapters highest officers must survive at all costs, so Commanders, Chaplains, Librarians and their Commands usually employ Terminator suits on the battlefied.
Beliefs
The Purifiers believe in their own skill at healing. They continue to find new and innovative ways to keep themselves and others alive as well as ways to keep an individual productive even when a mortal wound might take them or cripple them. They believe in the healing power of the Emperors light and believe that they themselves have been somehow chosen by the Emperor to hold this power. The Apothecaries hold a theory that if they continue to research their own genetic defect and make themselves complete, then maybe someday they will be able to research a way to bring the Emperor himself back to health so that he may purify the galaxy once again and bring peace to Terra.
Appearance
The Chapter appearance is a quartered color scheme. Bone and Red is used with a silver chest eagle and other silver trim. Boltguns are black with a dark red casing. All Marines use helmets in the battlefield and from the Battle Brother to the Cassius himself, you will not see their face during combat. They never take for granted the protection their power armor gives them. The Chapter symbol is a red heart on the bone shoulder pad. The red shoulder pad has squad designation markings. Company markings are on the left kneepad when a kneepad is available on a white background.
Battle Cry
"For Life, for the Emperor, Til Death!"
Traits used are as follows and descriptions on reasoning provided:
Purity Above All- The Chapter uses many more Apothecaries than a normal Chapter and so have more employed on the battlefield.
Heed the Wisdom of the Ancients- So that they would continue to fight on and lessen losses to living Brothers, a deal was made with the High Lords of Terra to aquire more Dreadnoughts in exchange for a lot less Tactical Dreadnought armor suits.
Flesh over Steel- Many of the Chapters resources are used to research and cure their genetic defect, and so as a result there are less vehicles than normally would be seen in a normal Chapter.
Death Before Dishonor- The end of the battle usually ends up with The Purifiers holding the battlefield while the Apothecaries attend. They are very meticulous and also attend to any innocents or allies that have been wounded as well. This can lead to the enemy regrouping at times and attempting one more strike.
