i have 3 armies orks tyranids and chaos sm id like 1 more army for my shelf but i cant decide im not a fan of space marines(chaos dont count) icw narrowed it down to 3 tau necrons and imperial guard

tau: extreme fire power which im not used to with nids and orks but as all my armys are good in close combat there a stretch

imperial guard: a swarm army with tanks like orks except they wont be charging into closecombat there kinda like tau in a way but thes have an indate codex which is a promising choice

necrons: these were why i got started in 40k my friend showed me dawn of war and i loved the necrons cause they could get back up i then moved on to dow2 and liked the nids which is the the actual reason i got into 40k ( i was looking for a model to put next to my compute thought a fiver would do it) anyway there codex is extremely out of date and my friend is starting necrons

so any ideas which i should choose

We have so much in common... I currently play Tyranids, Orks, Tau, CSM, and starting Chaos Daemons. I've played against 'Crons and 'Guard as well.

IG is a very powerful army, but are expensive as hell, because a single 'Russ is about $50-60, and you'll want at least 3 of them, plus tons of Guardsmen; so check your budget first. Apparently they play extremely well in tournaments, so if you want to win many battles, I guess this would be a great army for you.

Necrons are very bad imo, because they are extremely limited in choice, and if you kill 75% of their army that's on the table of the first turn, (which means you disclude DS Monoliths and their units inside) they automatically lose. However they are very resilient at range, but they don't stand a chance against power weapons in cc.

Tau are amazing. If you get the proper list (there's a very good one on the internet, send me a message if you want it) you can wipe out most of the opponent's army by the second turn! They are a very cheap army to build, and they can really dish out A LOT of med - long range firepower. Their only downpart is that they are expensive units that can be insta-killed by heavy weaponry quite quickly, and they don't stand a chance in cc (good luck getting there:biggrin:).

Well, happy hunting!

Sure my friend:

2000pts:

Shas'el with PR, MP and MT

3 squads of 3 crisis suits with the same wargear as the shas'el

6 FW

10 Kroot with 7 hounds

2 broadsides

2 hammerheads with RG, DP, SMS, and MT

2 Piranhas with FB and 1 DP

1 Piranha same as above

8 pathfinders in devilfish with MT, SMS, and DP

(I owe credit to another member who showed me this btw, forgot his name). Enjoy!

Just take off upgrades that won't be too useful in 1000pts like DP, and remove some units.

I'd roll for Tau or IG. IG if you want flexibility as Tau only have one real build as DestroyerHive posted (though @ 2k there should be 2x2 Piranahs and 2xKroot squads). If you want more info on that list click the Tau link in my signature which links you to a post on how to use that army and if you want more info on why that army list is picked you can read the Armies in 5th articles on Tau from that link as well.

For Tau at lower points try and fit as many Crisis Suits in as possible. You get 2k firepower at 1k points which is capable of anti-infantry and anti-tank. Evil :).

Yes, the Kroot! That's what I was forgetting... And I only said 3 Piranhas because that's all I have available ATM, so I forgot the real build off the top of my head.

I agree with all of the above, except one thing: you've got all evil armies now. If you're gonna do a massive and extremely epic Apocalypse battle with all of your armies, make sure you have some interesting story of why Tau are with Orks, CSM, and Tyranids.

Actually all of the races are evil; just depends on the point of view. Killing "filthy xenos" because they are inferior sounds like a good thing to you? IMO Tyranids are the most neutral army in 40K because they don't have evil incentives, they simply kill on instinct.
