I like to think my Imperial Guard has quite a few heroes in it. So I looked at all my loyal Guardsmen, and thought about all those times when they had done some truly amazing stuff. Then, I decided I'd make them up as Independent Characters. So here goes...

Commander Garth

Commander Garth is one of the most revered Commanders of the Cadian 8th. He is a veteran of thr Battle of Tyrok fields, in which he lead a platoon of conscripts in a daring flanking raid on the chaos vanguard.

But his most famous victories were on the planet Telgaris, a planet almost totally destroyed by a combination of tyranid hive fleets, Ork WAAAGHS! and Chaos Heresys. However, in spite of the impossible odds Garth and his loyal company was victorious and held off in total 10,000 points of tyranids at the Telgaris Defence Bunker, before being reinforce by space marines of the Ultramarines chapter.

However, Garth has also faced defeat right in it's pug ugly face as well as enjoying victory. The company was almost utterly destroyed during Operation Purge when attempting to destroy the daemon world of Mendregard. Only 4 platoons, Garth, his command and a squad of stormtroopers managed to escape alive.

Know the regiment moves to bolster Armageddon as it's citzens brace for the third ork invasion. Though with more and more Warlords gathering into the fray, only time will tell if Garth's embattled company will survive the green tide of Armageddon...

Special Rules

Fearless- After years of fighting, Garth is totally fearless and never has to take Moral or Pinning tests. He confers this ability to any units he joins.

Master strategist- When there is a choice of mission decided on strategy roll, an army containig Garth automatically wins (the roll, not the game).

Hated enemies- If an army containing Garth is fighting against Tyranids, Orks of the Goff clan or chaos that follow tzeencth, all imperial models benefit by getting +1 attack and +1 WS.

Lasdesignator: Garth has a lasdesignator linked up with the Imperial Ship Burning Fury This means he call in a large blast template of S7 AP4 once a game (subject to scattering).

So, how was that forum users? If you have any advice, critisms and ideas I am happy to accept them. Also, any ideas for other characters I could think up? Thanks for listening Forum Users!

I like the idea of Commissar Garth automatically winning the game. :biggrin: I think his stats are too high though. I'd find it hard to believe he's better than a Space Marine commander especially for the points. Let me propose this as a counter:

Change this to be "any force containing Garth may choose whether to set up first."

Instead of +1 attack and +1WS I'd let them have hits on 3+ in assault

Lasdesignator: Garth has a lasdesignator linked up with the Imperial Ship Burning Fury This means he call in a large blast template of S8 AP1 2d6 AP once a game (subject to scattering).
I basically gave him the ability to call down a melta torpedo instead of the weapon you had. This makes the orbital bombardment more appropriate for the source.

Master Crafted Power Sword: Increases his S by +1 as well as rerolling misses.

Fluff sounds thought-up, although I'm not saying it took you very long to write it up, I've already heard of those battles from the codex, but it's a good way to flesh up his background. If you do write a story about it though, say hordes of tyrands or something similar instead of 10,000pts :eek:k:

As the above said, he's just a tiny bit overpowered for an Imperial guard guy. I like the revised version Steel Rain did though.

I like it, although seeing as he has a bolt pistol rather than something really powerful, you could perhaps knock him back down to BS4, as he isn't really gonna be killing much by bolt pistoling them to death
