Alrighty, so I've been convinced to try proxying an IG army before I decide on what my final choice will be for my new army. And truth be told I think I'm really gonna enjoy playing IG. Odds are this will be my next army. Basically I'd be sticking all the HQ units in the Valks/Vens along with the Storm Troopers. So I'd love some input on this guys. Thanks in advance! :victory:

Looks alright, just a couple of suggestions -

The HB's on the Valkyries...seen as you'll need to move slower to shoot them they aren't always that effective or worth the points spent on them. They are actually better on the Vendettas for that reason.

Spending 4x the points for a HF over a standard Flamer isn't worth it in most instances.

Astropaths in the list would give you access to a more diverse range of Tactics for the Valks/Vendi's...choosing the Board edge etc.

I won't bring up the subject of using Vets over ST's...I find that to be a personal preference issue.

Best of luck with it...Air Cav do look sweet on the board.

Alrighty. Thought over your suggestions and liked them. :victory: So I made the changes. Anything else?

BTW, how competitive is this list vs a Tank Company list? Any thoughts? This is alot of armour 12 instead of 14 is all I keep thinking.

I'm just wondering what benefit the Lascannons will be on the Valkyries, because with the MRP's (which is the best choice) been AI what are you gaining by taking a single shot AT weapon, plus it's 15 pts saved over the Multi-laser.

Also, watch out for the OoTF because that can come back to bite you hard late-game if all his Reserves turn up at once. Air - Cav is an alpha-strike list and either wins big or dies horribly depending on how well that goes, and a smart opponent will just reserve everything at the start, which means you will need to play the game differently to how you thought.

Anyway, just throwing some thoughts out there:eek:k:

Good point on the Lascannons. My bud (who plays IG but very tank heavy) suggested them just in case my Vens meet a horrible death. But, I do have lots of Lascannon death and Melta to go around so I don't see killing tanks being a problem. Consider that fixed! Now what to spend the extra points on...

I would play test before changing much else.
I commented earlier about using Vets and/or ST's, and it's definitely a personal choice thing. I've seen lists that use Vets and CCS's only and ones where if they have ST's they are only 5 - Men w/ 2 Meltas. Reason been that they are basically used as suicidal high priority AT units, but they do save points. Then again what are they spending those points on. I've seen 1500 pt lists with
2 CCS w/ SW's
4 Vets w/ SW's
6 Valks/Vends (3 x 2 squadrons)
that's using all 6 as transports, so no Ground Forces like you have, but I like that you have other elements, and if you end up building larger point lists I wouldn't take 3 per squadron beccause it would be too unwieldly, too expensive points-wise, and too easily destroyed because of the way 'squadroning' works...more Ground Forces would be cool though. Or if you play Apoc adding some of the FW Flyers would be fantastic.

All the best with it:victory:

I will just post one of the lists I ran when I did AirCav:

HQ:
Company Command Squad
Straken, 4x Meltaguns, Astropath, Officer of the Fleet
[215]

Troops:
(10) Veterans
Power Fist, Shotguns, 3x Meltaguns
[115]

(10) Veterans
Power Fist, Shotguns, 3x Meltaguns
[115]

(10) Veterans
Power Fist, Shotguns, 3x Meltaguns
[115]

(10) Veterans
Power Fist, Shotguns, 3x Meltaguns
[115]

(10) Veterans
Power Fist, Shotguns, 3x Meltaguns
[115]

(10) Veterans
Power Fist, Shotguns, 3x Meltaguns
[115]

Fast Attack:
(3) Valkyrie
Multiple Rocket Pods
[390]

(2) Valkyrie
Multiple Rocket Pods
[260]

(2) Vendetta
[260]

[1845]

That is a pure AirCav list - emphasis on delivery and assault. You can mix it up with Vendettas/Valkyries, but I find that split works well. Sadly, I sold off all but three of my Vendettas and can't really do AirCav. It is fun, but not competitive.

I like your list better than the one I tried! :good:

I was concerned about how competitive it was. Good to see I'm not alone in my thoughts. But it is hellishly fun to play! :victory:

With regards to Valk/Vend, I'd normally go for the opposite of what the rest of your army does....i.e. for OldHat's army go valkyries, since you have a LOT of AT with all those meltas, and not as much anti-infantry. Basically during your scout move run the flyers straight towards enemy tanks, 1st turn drop them out and valks/vends are free to move around wherever. On the other hand if you have a lot of flamers etc. in your squads, then go for vendettas (personally my favourite option). Also I wouldn't bother too much with the astropath, since your flyers can pack a lot of firepower (i mean....for 3 vendetta's that's 3 9 TL lascannons and 3 HB) so most of the time you'll want them to start off on the board. Not that it's not better to outflank in some situations, just I think the astropath points are better spent elsewhere.

Another thing i wouldn't be too bothered about is the flamers on your command units. Combat based armies will normally charge them before they get a chance to do much (1 or 2 kills possibly) and shooty armies that really feel threatened by them will normally pick them off, which isn't too hard considering it's only 5 models and they have to actually get close before they do anything...If you're really adamant about throwing them in, and I know plenty of people that are (as the old saying goes...theres nothing better than the smell of burnt green mushroom in the morning), either put them in transport (make sure you leave some officers behind for orders though), or go with al'rahem ;)

Anyhow army looks solid enough, all the best :)
