Ok. I think I managed to design a new 2000 point list with the new codex. I can't use any of my Forgeworld models, so this was one that offers a lot of toys that I like, without needing a lot of extra purchases to reach what I need.

So I put one squad of Sniper Drones in each Gunrig, most likely. Maybe not, but that's an option. As long as one spotter is in there, I get my BS5 shots with all 3. Plus the FBSCs can fire at +1 BS before markers, and can offer TH and MH to anyone else firing with the contingent.


Edit: Sadly, this army was already invalidated, since I don't play Unbound. You can't take a Fortification in the Hunter Contingent. Oh well.

That's about how it boils down to.

I have to say that the more I think about it, the less interested I am in the new Hunter Contingent super-formation. It feels clunky and overly complicated, and while in some ways it's more flexible than, say, a Demi-Company, the bonuses are weird, and the tax can be rough depending on what you want to put in your army.

I'm seriously considering just going back to what I had before, which was just more CADs, with a mix of Tau and Farsight (since FSE seems to still be valid).

I'm far more excited about the Fortification than the Hunter Contingent. And I'm dreading the endless debates that come from the Buffmander (which I don't use).

However, with that said, here's my second draft...

I'm not really happy with it, but it has a lot of what I wanted. I may drop the Cadre Fireblade (who mostly exists to run the Gunfort), and just use the Sniper Drones. They're there mostly because it was the cheapest required 'heavy' slot in the Contingent, and I'm not a fan of tanks or the Stormsurge, and all of my Broadsides were already tasked to the formations. Doing that would give me some spare points for a few more Fire Warriors, or maybe adding some more options here and there.

I'm also a little concerned about anti-air, because I don't want my super-Riptides tied up with anti-aircraft duties.

I do think your Commanders next a bit extra stuff; Dual Missile pods and Target lock to be precise.
I also feel that the hunter cadre is overly complex and think it only really works in apocalypse sized games. I have moved on from that pretty quick and now consider the strength comes from the formations
