title says it all.

The actual units (I don't have a codex) I'm planning to use for a this hypothetical force (consider this a assessment of viability) are mostly Carnfexs ), Tyrannofex, Exocrine, Walkrants, and maybe Haprys and Crones if I can find a way to make a desile punk-esque robot with a jet pack look good, (I don't want to have to use fighters).

Ignore for a moment that there is no AA in that list at the moment, how viable would this be? this army would be for fun and the chance to play with some fun models (I'm gonna use dust studio mechs for the proxy!) but I do want to have a chance to win. that said, I don't want to be a BLEEP and bring nothing but +2 regening Tyrannofex's. so those are the two things i'm looking for, chance to win, and doing non BLEEPY ness.

It'll be slow as hell and have a very polarised playstyle. Either you make it with enough big beasties left alive to win, or you'll lose too many monsters on the way in and can't kill enough to stop your opponent winning on objectives. Since you're pretty universally 6" move Fleet creatures, the former is more likely.

Crones give AA. You would need a couple that (Two Basic Crones 310p)
Then three basic carnifexes with devourers 405
Basic Walkrant with two devourers 195p (To give the army more speed add wings to total 230p)
That's 910p (or 945p) with upgrages you'll want to take it will go to a 1000p.
Not a bad army for 1000p, how big of an army do you want to do?

That's not a bad army and to be honest it would be fun to try and kill that army, but the only problem is one synapse. Carnifex will rip each other to shred if they fail and are in the same brood. I doubt Crone will fail the test (unless you are unlucky).

You could have Crones flanking and a bulk force of Walkrant bodyguarded by three carnifexes. If you play a normal game I doubt you'll win - but if you play on your own rules like I do sometimes (until everything is killed) you've got a good shot, but like said earlier your opponent will get the objectives and you'll not.

More viable than it used to be for sure.

As long as your beasts on foot are all packing guns so they can deal damage as they advance, you should be able to put up a decent fight.

Personally I'd want to put in another tyrant, maybe two, just for the added synapse. Failing that, a trygon prime?

I don't think AA is necessary - what Flyers are really scary to a Nidzilla list?

Secondly, and this thought only just occurred to me, you could do worse than a list revolving around six or seven Carnifexes with all Devourers, a couple of Flying Hive Tyrants with Devourers, an Aegis Defence Line and a couple of Venomthropes.

I don't know the exact math, but for 1500pts you are looking at something along these lines for nid-zilla (at least this is how I would do it):

Swarmlord [265pt-ish] (18" bubble, and can easily hide behind your wall of fexes and character hunts)
Flyrant with 2x TL-devs [230pt-ish] (mobile synapse and easily enough anti-air with 12 str 6 shots)
Tyrgon Prime [230pt-ish] (deep striking synapse)
Tyrgon Prime [230pt-ish] (deep striking synapse)
Dakka Fex Brood (2 fexes) [260pt-ish] (provides some shooting while charging forward)
Crushing Claw Fexes (2 fexes) [230pt-ish] (provides you with any anti-armor you may encounter, as with the new rules, you'll likely be seeing more armor out there)

That puts you at 8 MCs (1 flying), 36 wounds, and 4 providing synapse.

I'd have gone with:

Hive Tyrant with Wings and Two Twin-Linked Devourers
Hive Tyrant with Wings and Two Twin-Linked Devourers
Hive Tyrant with Wings and Two Twin-Linked Devourers

Venomthrope
Venomthrope
Venomthrope

Carnifex with Two Twin-Linked Devourers and Adrenal Glands
Carnifex with Two Twin-Linked Devourers and Adrenal Glands
Carnifex with Two Twin-Linked Devourers and Adrenal Glands
Carnifex with Two Twin-Linked Devourers and Adrenal Glands
Carnifex with Two Twin-Linked Devourers and Adrenal Glands
Carnifex with Two Twin-Linked Devourers
Carnifex with Two Twin-Linked Devourers

Aegis Defence Line

If you can think of a better upgrade than Adrenal Glands, go for it (probably another 'thrope)

Doom scythes, even night scythes. Vendetta Gunships. Stormravens. Razorwing fighters.

And, you know, any others that like to pack high strength multi shot weapons or high strength low AP guns.

So what tyranid monster is scary to a flyer?

Doom Scythes are doing one wound per MC that they can hit, allowing Feel No Pain and Shrouded. Yeah, they'll punk the Venomthropes if they can hit them from the side or rear, but not that scary to monsters. Tesla Destructors that can't shoot for more than half the game and costing more than Annihilation Barges are fine by me. Vendettas, granted, you can have that one . Stormravens, again, won't do that much. With 2 missiles, melta and assault cannon/lascannon unloading into a Carnifex, you'll not even kill it (through Shrouded, if you've killed the Venomthropes then you get pretty much exactly enough firepower to kill a Carnifex). Dark Eldar are a hard counter to any Nidzilla list, their Flyers are the weakest thing you could bring against Nidzilla so I'd be jumping for joy.

Flying Hive Tyrants. 12 Str6 shots into rear armour at BS4 Twin Linked on a tough chassis is probably one of the strongest anti-air units in the game.
