How to paint bullet holes on miniature armour?

Particularly larger-shelled bullets, like a bolter.

I saw the one on the GW site, and disliked it.

Has anyone ever tried drilling out a bullet hole or making a small indent in the model than silver around the outside and black in the small middle part of the hole??
