How to paint bullet holes on miniature armour?

Particularly larger-shelled bullets, like a bolter.

I saw the one on the GW site, and disliked it.

that's what I do for my bases, I uses a layer of textured plasticard sheets they sell at my local hobby store, then use a drillbit for the holes, a hobby knife to cut in some cracks surrounding the hole, and I paint the inside of the hole black.
It works pretty well.
