I usually do this:
-basecoat with a dark grey ( say Charadon Granite, but it can be any grey, it just has to be veeery dark)
-heavy drybrush with less dark grey (say adeptus battlegrey, but any equivalent is ok)
-light (and i repeat, light!) drybrush with codex grey
-thin highlighting/lining along the edges and raised areas with a mix 50:50 codex grey/ceramite white
hope it helps, cheers :)
-nasty and reckless washing in nuln oil.

It all depends on what what you want to accomplish with the black. Personally I basecoat in black, do a highlight with Dark Reaper (Yes the flat surfaces, not the outer lines) and do a Nuln Oil wash afterwards.

Dark reaper is a blueish grey, and it gives it a nice hue without making it too bright. It also breaks up the usual "I draw lines on everything" trend that I personally think looks a bit too cartoonish.

for space marines i highligt the obvious angular parts and also, on the flat surfaces, some thin lines near the edges of the flat area. If you have some raised and well visible borders with edges, just highlight that. Flat areas can avoid the highlightin whit some "cheating", using decorations, decals and gluied accessories to fill space.

Are they night lord space wolfs lol

while I did take some ques from the night lords, they are not night Lord space wolves, I use silvers and more cold colours then the night lords which, though using blue in a similar way, are fully set for warmer colours for accents.

I base-coat in black, airbrush the top 1/4 with a very dark grey and then extreme highlight with 1:1 Black:Codex Grey (Which I believe is the equivalent of 3:1 black:white).

I use a black undercoat then highlight the edges with a thin (1:1 paint/thinner) layer of grey, then highlight more with a little thinned out white. I use Vallejo paints, so I don't know what the GW color names would be since they changed them...
