Honestly, the first thought that came to my mind would be like a sand zen garden design on the base maybe some sand mixed with PVA glue or some millput or greenstuff rolled out. Either that or a cobblestone effect like they were a palace guard. Looking at images of Japanese art I would do the bases in browns or grey to make the red stand out. These are nice models already so I don't think the base has to be anything elaborate.

I like the cobbles idea, especially if you added some fallen cherry blossoms.

I'm with Dave on this one - Personally I would take out the purple flower though, as the green creates a big contrast to the mostly red armor you on your guys.

Whichever you prefer, I would tone it down just a notch - Remove either green or purple and you should be fine.

I agree with Dave one to many colors. I also agree with Nord that taking away the purple would make greater contrast to the red armor. Unless you want it to blend more than I would take away the green and the purple will blend well with the red.
