this info cannot leave THE ENDGAME. It is sensitive, and i could get sued for disclosing information about my contract. so don't fucking do it.

So i've got probably the worst news that anyone in my profession could hope to hear.

"We're pulling your contract, we're no longer going to publish your book, and oops sorry, there goes that trilogy offer we had on the table as well. fuck off."

So perhaps you're wondering, WTF? I'll explain...

This afternoon, i concluded a video-conference with Tor Books, who up until this afternoon were my publisher, friends, and employers. No more.

Tor has decided that they; "due to limited available funds, and limited market presence" cannot afford to market, edit, or publish my book.

My contract, which afforded me a 4 thousand dollar advance based on projected sales, also included a trilogy clause, where if sales were good enough, i would continue with a book 2 and book 3... fuck that NOW!

Long story short, no contract, no trilogy, no book at all. although i do get to keep my advance. :p

However, there is a glimmer of hope, i could have the manuscript professionally edited and then i can get it done as Print on Demand. my current prospect is lulu.com. I've had a family member achieve success through lulu.com i shamelessly bump his work whenever i can(he's my grandfather, here's his book, it's absolutely wonderful, and i'm not just saying that: http://www.lulu.com/product/paperba...gContext=search_results/search_shelf/center/3 ) (and here: http://stores.lulu.com/tweens_cd)

so i figured i would vent my frustrations for those of you who might have been aware that i was pursuing a writing career. If you weren't aware, now you are. I'll keep everyone updated.

...sigh...

cheers.

Agreed. Don't let them get you down or dicourage you from your Writing.
The much used phrase 'Suffer for your Art' is more accurate than a lot of people think.
Keep up the excellent work, my friend :)

That bites mate. Sorry to hear it. Hope that this is one of those times when shit news or events puts you on a path to something better. Best of luck with your career and everything associated with it. I cannot give you any decent advice other than to keep going and keep doing what you enjoy doing.

Keep us posted mate. I will certainly be buying a copy WHEN you get it published, which ever path you go down.

That's a kick in the stones man. I know it's hard to keep positive in a situation like this, but you seem to handling it fairly well, what with exploring alternatives already. Hope it all works out for you.
i'll be damned if i let this book die. :)

Yeah Ploss that really does suck. Add my purchase to Humakt when, not if, when you do get it out there.

It is indeed horrible news, but through adversity you will gain strength. If they are foolish enough to end a contract that could make them a vast sum of money, then to hell with them. It may take a little bit longer and the road a bit rougher, but you can do it by yourself and take all the pride (and profit) for yourself. Good luck Commie, and like it was said in The Waterboy: You can do it! You can do it all night long!!!:p

Also the financing part- enjoy poverty if your book doesn't sell well (just call me 'The Naysmith')
nah, print on demand. :) i don't have to buy a stock and hope it sells. :p

I'll buy a few for signings and stuff, but i'll recoup that.

So it won't be in the book stores any time soon, if you don't have a book in the book store then you're not a real author
no, but it's foot in the door for a new contract down the road...
