i'm phil.

i was introduced to tabletop gaming through a friend about 6 years ago. (has it been that long already?) i played GW's LOTR SBG for about 2 or 3 years after that, but gradually played less and less as more friends were less interested in playing, and i was growing tired of painting that range of miniatures. nights in shining armor and hords of uruk-hai just aren't my thing to paint.

even though i had stopped playing i still bought some new minis every so often, and acquired most of the GW range of paints. (i know there are cheaper paints out there, but i'm used to these, and i know how they "work," so to speak. about a year ago i began to again get interested in the hobby, and bought a few tau models to paint up and convert.

that brings me to were i am now, which is getting ready to choose and army and hopefully get it painted and on the battlefield in a reasonable amount of time. as i've come to understand the rules a little better, and have played a couple games i've really started to worry about the tau's measly assault skills, and have opted for a more beginner-friendly space marine army as my first army. right now i'm going with the imperial fists, as they seem pretty versatile and i like the color scheme. choosing them is not set in stone, however, and i may go with a different chapter after i have a little more understanding on the strengths and weaknesses of each, and what my combat preferences are.

a few more personal details: i'm a 20-year old electrical engineering student from southern maryland. other hobbies are music, guitar, and videogames. i still live with my parents, and since i'm currently jobless (although i'm likely to start work with a very nice job in a couple weeks) i've been learning how to game and paint on a budget.

Welcome!

Lots of Space Marine armies about, but they are, as you say, a good flexible beginner's army. Keep us posted on how you get on!

thanks for all the welcomes!

i won't be posting a whole lot for the time being, as there's enough stuff on here to read to keep me busy, but as my knowledge of 40k grows i'll get a little more involved.
