Right guys well today I actually motivated myself into picking up a paintbrush and start work on repainting some minis I got on the cheap. I would provide pictures but photobucket is down *angry*. Basically they are Cadian IG who's I'm doing with a Tartan shoulder pad. Hard to pull of well I know.

So far I've come up with two different styles: one is blue with red lines and the other is red with green lines. The actual painting on the green and red is better by far I know that, I spent a couple of hours on it whereas the blue and red had about 15 minutes and the blue is inked which makes touching it up very hard. And the rest of the figure has only been basecoated, no highlights or anything. Basically I want to know which one you guys think looks best. Not the actual painting but more the color scheme. Sorry for the bad pics as well hopefully you get the idea though.

Ok this is the blue and red:

Red and Green:

Pair:

Pair 2 (This one is really for the green as it shows the smaller lines better) :

I think the blue and red looks better as it lightens up the mini a bit wheres as the green and red tartan just blended into the uniform. The regiment is Heavy Infantry so camo doesn't really matter I just like the look of green and black although it does make the mini quite dark. Basically the effort on each mini is going into the shoulder pad so I want the rest of the guy quite simple so not to detract from the shoulder pad. Any other ideas for color combintaions that still look highlandy/heavy infantry that are easy to pull off?

The other question I need answered is... what colour should I use to highlight Catachan Green? - at the moment the cloth is green and the armour is black. But this could (and hopefully with your help will) change.

Cheers Guys

http://tinypic.com/ not the best site in the world but its good in a pinch nad u dont need to register.

id say this is a good scheme, light back ground allows for highlights which are bright.

and with regards to highlighting green, it all depends upon wot ur after, catachan green can be highlighted with

camo green - subtle highlight
scorption green - bright highlight
bleachd bone - for somewhere in between

just have a play and see which one ur prefer :þ

Cheers Dark - just as I saw your post I also found that photobucket was working but I'll keep that site in mind in the future. Would you just be able to clarify what you ment by:

"light back ground allows for highlights which are bright"

I also started highlighting the Green and Red Guardsmen with Commando Khaki which came up with ok results. Its quite harsh highlighting. I havn't started on the black yet - I'll do that when I have a confirmed color scheme as I hate highlighting black especially armour.

basicaly, working off a black bas coat will natrually darken ur colours, if u changed the bas coat to something not as dark, say regal blue, or catachan green, it will allow the stripes to be brighter

Ah - ha - cheers mate - I was thinking of basecoating the green in white so thanks for confirming it for me. Any thoughts on blue or red tartan?
